Special Edition BK4

Laser etch goes away with stripping since its cut out.of the coating withba laser. There may be some remaining etched in but after the necessary sanding it may be gone. The room stamped ones are there and deep so after stripping they remain.

Doesn't the laser etching go all the way thru the steel?

Got mine. Kabar is just oozing awesomesauce for doing this.

Thank you!

Some nice black micarta already sitting here patiently waiting for its arrival.

Thanks Bladite for the heads up! Still have my old Becker version from 2005, but this is a great price and can always use a user. Luckily I also bought two sets of tan micarta scales from Camillus a while back, but now wish I had bought more of those...!

Ordered!!!!!!! Cant wait for this one to come meet the rest of the family. Then I'll put it to work in the sweatshop with the rest of the kids.

Gonna stand down on this one, Want one, but I'm tapped now. I'm sure things will pick up.

You can acid etch the markings before you strip and they will be semi-permanent that way, no?

By definition, the word "etch" describes a surface treatment. In this case, the laser is applied to the blade after it's coated, and it does penetrate completely through the coating, but because of that, the surface of the metal gets even less penetration than it would if applied directly. Look at some of Clich's pics of his BK16 and you can still see Ethan's sig. and the FPR text etched on the surface, but it is very light after stripping (and probably some sanding by Clich too).

This BK4 being offered here has the old-style roll stamp that is comparatively deep, and won't be obscured by stripping, sanding and polishing.

Neither way of applying the logo goes all the way through the steel though.

For those who left a message and then came back and said they placed their order, did you keep calling back, or did Christie call you back? I left a message about 50 minutes ago and have time to be patient, but certainly don't want to miss out. This release is not just for Beckerheads, so 200 isn't that many since it's available to the whole forum, and some are ordering more than one. Guess I just answered my own question....I better get back on the horn. LOL

That's cool of Ka-Bar to do this for us. I personally can't justify buying it right now, but pretty cool.
