LOL they did everything but Dig with it.:D

Don't Tell Bastid, I think I found his Christmas present, the perfect size for cleaning out those Goat Pens.:D

I only see one problem.

After a week working with this Tool he may not walk upright for a while.:D
I know I wouldn't.:D:D

Funeeee humour for the week end. Yes I did note that digging was not demonstrated. I would assume that it would have a survival advantage associated with digging.

The Video totally fails to convince me of putting one of these in my survival kit that has a machete, couple of knives.

It is an offensive weapon, it offends me.

ill be right back, i have to chop down some trees with a tire iron.

then dig a hole with a cd player.

CS has been selling those "Spetznatz" shovels for some time now. I recall way back in the 60s our lads were sharpening up the edges of their "entrenching tools" and considering the things a superior weapon to any other non-firearm.

During WWI the entrenching tool was a handy weapon during hand to hand fighting in the trenches. Bayonets were either too long or had a nasty habit of getting stuck in the body, requiring the soldier to shoot his rifle to dislodge his victim.

I don't see what the big deal is with showing how a shovel can be used as a weapon.

didnt watch the vid...

but ive had a couple of these in the past, and i kinda liked them...

granted, they are a bit excessive for digging a cathole, but for general digging/prying/bashing, it seemed to wrok okay, and i didnt manage to break it (ive broke several of the military issue folding shovels)
and, this is a bit of a moot point, but if i do break the handle, i could possibly make a replacement in the field (but, i havnt actually done this, so...)

anyways, i generally dont care for cold steel too much, their 'pr' campaign gets on my nerves, to say the least. just dont want anyone to confuse me w/ one of the rabid coldsteel flunkies.

on a quasi-related note, i was thinking it would be neet to have a small trowel-sized digging tool, with tubular handle that could mount on the end of a walking stick to make an improv spear.
(cant really justify the usefullness of this one, i just more think it would be cool, or something :/ )

i find it funny because they show the shovel doing everything but digging.

of course shovels can make good weapons. and any spade can be sharpened.

but marketing a shovel as a weapon is odd.

Given the increasing climate of political correctness, and a government that tells us what we can and can't have, I don't find it odd at all. No more odd say, than a 16th century peasent over in Japan to think of ways to use rice flails and small sickles as weapons. Or an Irishman in 17th century English ruled Ireland learning how to use a blackthorn to counter sword thrusts.:D

I think the reason we didn't see anyone digging with it was, this was the one thing that the people in R&D forgot to Engineer into the Tool.:D

if that were the case, then cs is contributing to the banning of shovels by advertising them as weapons.

but it isnt the same, because we arent peasants defending ourselves against tyranical rule. im not aware of any american law that prohibits practice with swords, knives, or firearms.

Yet.

If Hillery, Sarah Brady and Kennedy have their way, we may not even have a shovel.:D

That's from one of the Cold Steel "Proof" or "More Proof" or "Even More Proofer" videos.
Gotta love the wailing guitars in the background. Because behind every Special Forces guy stands another guy, shredding on a red guitar, rocking his ass off.

Other uses for the Special Forces shovel not shown in the video:

High-speed tactical pancake flippin'
Zombie decapitatin'
Naughty schoolgirl spankin'
Stealth amphibious assault boat paddlin'
Covert roadkill scrapin'
etc. etc. et al.

Damn, one more thing I have to add to my Xmas list....

Personally, I can't get enough of Cold Steel's videos.

My favourite ones are of the Big Guy chopping up the pork ribs. I can just imagine him tucking into said ribs immediately after rendering them helpless with his Voyager XL.

He's quite a character old Lynn...

huh. actually, if i remember, i think this was an actual 'use' listed in the catalog (though, i havnt seen a cold steel catalog in about a decade, so...)

I prefer the military folding shovel I keep in the trunk of my car. I use it mostly for snow, but I wouldn't hesitate to use it as a weapon. I like it better than a crowbar for that purpose.

If it didn't cost four times as much as my shovel, I'd buy the one from Glock. It's lighter and has a saw in the handle.
