With the SCAR-H if you run out of 7.62x51mm ammo, simply by changing the barrel and using captured AK mags you can fire Soviet 7.62x39mm ammo.
I think that the idea is that there would be 7.62x51mm and 7.62x39mm, and the two would take different mags. From the pics I've seen I can't see the two mags being able to work in one rifle, but who knows what kind of mechanical nightmare is inside the magwell. The whole 7.62x39mm deal came about some time ago (early in Afghanistan, if not before), and Knight's made at least a few M16 style rifles to use 7.62x39mm. I'm don't think the ammo issue was ever enough to worry about and the program died.
