Special Knife Needs a Special Stand - "Update" - Original LaRoche Stand Found!!

How about taking it a bit farther and making a base that looks like the rest of the snakes body coiled up and have the knife rise out of it?
I like the minimalist approach as well.

One method may be to have a wide bronze (or silver?) base and a smaller tapered wooden block with a tight-fitting slot to capture just 1-2" of the tip. Balanced at the precise angle there would be minimal pressure on the blade, and it would be able to grasp and draw out easily. No need for another support to get in the visuals?

Ask Tai. ;)

Blade? I hope to meet you this time. :)

To all who commented as I searched for a stand solution, thanks. The original stand, signed by artist Jean-Marc LaRoche, was located by Don Guild, who shipped it to me just a few days ago. It arrived just now and I am as pleased as can be.

The stand, in images below, really shows off the Cobra as it should be seen, in my opinion, and is very much minimalist in design, as I had hoped.

Thanks again to all for your contributions, and a special thanks to Don Guild, for having remembered it after all these years.

Best,

Bob Betzner

Fantastic, Bob! Sneaky idea.
Its been fun..
David

David, I am not quite sure what you mean by "Sneaky idea".

I had actually packaged up five knives to ship to Blade, one of them being the LaRoche Cobra. My intent was to get a stand made for the Cobra. It didn't come with one when I acquired it from Don Guild. That was the purpose of this thread.

Several days ago, after this thread had already run awhile, Don Guild emailed me to say he had come across the original stand that Jean-Marc LaRoche sent him in 2001 at the time of original purchase. I was surprised, to say the least.

Would you like to clarify your "Sneaky idea" comment, please? I mean, do you even take the time to read the threads and understand what is said??

Respectfully,

Bob

No Bob, i just meant "sneaky" as in the way the support is cloaked behind the blade. It also occurs to me "sneaky" is almost "snake" in word play. No offense meant whatsoever. I love it.

David, I just wasn't sure what to make of the comment, no offense intended here either, but wanted to understand.

Yeah, I was blown over by the find, to say the least.

Bob

EDIT: Time to lock it up, no more posts, bye now.
