Just curious, how do folks here consider special or limited edition "fancier" 110's like these from Bass Pro or Cables.

Are these "custom shop" knives or something else?

I can't help but notice that both knives have a hidden pivot pin for the lock bar. Sort of smacks of the Custom Shoppe, no?

TLC or a BCCL,

CS, SO, LE...I see them as the same. I like them better that the standard issues...don't know why. However, they seem to draw me in like a bug to that nice blue light. The AG rosewood has all of it's pins.

I would buy the Bass Pro if it had different steel for the blade.

Like the Cabela's but can't get used to the black blade, seems to mess it up for me enough I don't like it either.

I think they are often good buys if you like the combination that they put together. Just neither of them really please me.

I do like those editions though especially when I can handle a few in the store and pick the better of the lot.

I with you there, black or dark blade with stag just doesn't work for me.

I hear ya, Chris. I am of mixed minds about that combo too. However, I am really liking that NS bone combination. I think that I am going to have to have one for show and one to go.

Custom Shop knives are made one at a time. The special project knives made for various dealers are made in lot quantities in a different department by different people 25 feet from the Custom Shop. I guess that makes the special project knives different but I suspect Richard (Custom Shop) will help out Dana (supervisor of the special projects area last I knew) if there is a mad rush in Dana's area or vice versa. I do have some special project knives with the COA signed by Dana. I have also watched both of them make knives for me and both are fully capable of doing fine custom work well beyond the custom shop catalog offerings. This comment also applies to Joe Houser who is a fine craftsman in his own right. By the way, Dana is a fine lady who deserves and commands every bit as much respect as the guys in the shop.

AHHHHH another fine tid bit for my furture artical on "custom" knives!
i think Joe said once how he defined the diffrent knives ...
JOE?
