Special Ops Mission on Military Channel

It's doable, we had 17 year olds going through Air Force selection too. There are a few places within the US that boys tend to become men rather fast.
 
I know this is an older thread fellas, I just start watching the show....pretty entertaining. Anybody know what kind of knife WW is carrying in the center of his vest?

Well, if he enlisted at 16 (kind of unlikely nowadays) he could possibly be started in the SEAL program by 17...although I think he would have been found out by then.

I'm curious what you guys mean by "camera crews". With the technology available today, your spotter can be operating a small camera with very high resolution. No need for a "camera crew" (which is only one guy with a shoulder camera, I know, I used to be one) and a TV babe doing a stand-up report on the scene.

We can take short videos now with a telephone camera, it's only a small step up to really good digital video. No crew involved.

Edit: On another note, I'd like to direct your attention to a series called "Generation Kill", about a Marine Recon unit in the early days of the Iraq invasion. Highly entertaining and educational in a backhanded way. Available through your DVD movie suppliers.

In Australia, you're allowed to start the application to the defence forces at 16 and a half I believe, and then join at 17 and complete basic training in a year or so

Understood. Back in my day, in 1960 the US still had the draft in system and it was compulsory for everybody: You could volunteer for three years which gave you a Regular Army (RA) status; wait to be drafted for two years active duty which gave you a US status; join the state National Guard (NG),which included 6 months active duty and 6-1/2 years of monthly meetings; or join the Army Reserve (ER) which envolved about the same obligation as the National Guard.

Anyway, in 1960, I was allowed to volunteer at the age of 17-1/2. I went directly into basic training, followed by my specialty school.

Edit: I was happy to volunteer for the Army after high school. My father and all of my uncles had served in WWII and my father and another uncle served again in Korea. I considered it an honor to follow in their footsteps. And I'm still glad I did.

The only exception I know of (at least when I joined) was for the Army. A junior in highschool -- with parental permission -- could join the Army Reserve and go to basic in the summer vacation between his junior and senior years. You then served as a reservist for your senior year.

After that I had arranged before joining to be discharged fromt he reserves and fulfill the rest of my obligation in the active Army.
 
I like the show myself!! Its not "perfect" by any means but I have all 6 episodes DVR'd.

To show you its a small world the company that they got there Night Vision Gear from for that show will be selling 15 of my neckers on there site once I get these last 10 I heat treated today completed.

I hope they make more episodes.
 
After freezeframing for hours I think I finally figured it out....Benchmade Nimravus. I know these are pretty common in the PX system as well.

As an interesting aside there was apparently some input from a few Para-Rescue personnel on the new Nimravus cub.
 
wow thats a crappy way to go out with all that training and skill to be ambushed and burnt then dismembered.
was this the reason the marines went into fallujah after and raised the place?
 
As far as being a SEAL at 17 if it is true it is really impressive. The age thing is not so far fetched I suppose. In Canada you can join reserve forces at 16, complete your training and move on to the Reg. force at 18.(This is what I did)

Well I remember reading the youngest seal ever was 16 years old during BUD/S
 
I seen it over the weekend , it is an ok show if a Hockey game is not on ....
to me it seems like the people at Base camp always chimming in at a bad time and are loud...
 
It's probably dubbed in at a higher volume level so the audience can hear it.

Remember it is a TV show, not reality.

If it was reality, it'd be a team of guys, and the bad guys woul dhave more planning and better execution of their plans.

What it is good at, is showing what a disadvantage a defender has when they have to protect various assets with limited manpower and, even though there is a time limit, the aggressor chooses when and where to hit them.

But it's a fun show to watch.
 
On a selfish note, don't forget about your Air Force Special Operators. The "Quiet Proffessionals".
