Grand Leavitt at Snake River Knives is shipping my two 110 damascus droppoints today. He was nice enough to send me a picture of the birds eye one and I have a ladder pattern as well.

I sent him two knives with 420hc blades and he replaced them with damascus DP's I had him grind special for me. Grand has done clip points for 110s in the past but never a drop point so these two are pretty unique I think. At least I have never seen any before.

I'm interested in opinions on the blade design. I pulled out my Buck S30V droppoint and compared. Grands blade looks wider giving the drop point a look similar to the old English Script 500 blades. I'll be interested to measure it out when it gets here. I really like the look. The blade steel is made up of 125 layers of 1095 carbon steel and 15N20 Nickel steel and made right in Idaho.

Dave,

I didn't ask that question. I'm assuming that they are good with the Devin Thomas damsacus bar stock. Grand did tell me he has done blades for Yellowhorse. Maybe he's not big enough...I just don't know.

Good looking. He has a twist and a firestorm pattern that look cool too.Only problem? They don't say Buck on them.

I sent this picture to Joe Houser and Jack Foresman with a "you know a Devin Thomas damascus DP in stag would make a great BCCI 110 & 112" I would certainly snap up one each.

A picture is worth a thousand words. The idea might catch on, maybe.
I really think a matched pair in DM would great next to the S30V set.

I ended up swapping frames as the first one got bent on the installation with the blade maker (I think). Anyway I changed out to the 111. Maybe I can salvage the bent one.

Now this is bad economic really but I bought the 111 because I really needed the scale for a pattern on another knive. Sunk cost.

I decided to installed some brown jigged bone I bought off Texas Knife. Blade locks up about as tight as a new Wally World 110 I have in the shop, so I'm pretty happy with that. The knife has excellent pop and snap. The scale turned out pretty good too.

My question is this a knife you guys would like??

Gordon, that's some fantastic work! I love the jigged bone, 111 frame, and damascus drop point.

I have always been a sucker for Raindrop pattern damascus.

As for working with Damascus suppliers, the problem is most often supply - it's hard to get enough volume from suppliers - even Devon Thomas can get backed up because there is so much demand for his stainless damascus.

It would be hard for a small shop to keep up with the demands of a large production knife company.

YEEEES, as I sit here slobbering all over my keyboard!! Might be something the club could do as a members only knife. Send pics and info to John Foresman and see what kind of reaction we get.

Tin,

Well, that thought is the reason for the question. I sent the first picture already to John. There seems to be some concern about cost of the damascus but I'll send this finished one and see what he thinks.

Who else should get it...maybe Joe H?

I was just wondering about you today, Goose. I was going to send some Canada Search Geese after ya!

Good to hear that you are still vertical. :D

I went back and read John's note to me and thought I'd post it here for you guys.
If you interested in a Club knife in Damascus maybe you should let him know.

Hi Gordon,

Your suggestion for future BCCI special project knives was forwarded to me. I love the idea of a drop point 110 and 112 in Devon Thomas Damascus. We've looked into Damascus in the past and the cost of the material took itself out of the running. We try to keep our pricing in everyone's range. That said, I'd like to offer the Damascus drop points on an order only basis. It would take a long time before the knives were delivered, but this way, we wouldn't be stuck holding a large inventory. I'll try to see if we can accomplish this sometime this year. Thanks again for the idea.

Take care,
John Foresman

A drop point damascus, that would ROCK!

Only suggestion I would make is if we could get a "user" version along with the more collectible and fancy one. Would keep the cost down for those of us who will use it.

Just a suggestion for the group. I won't buy/use an expensive/pretty knife.
