Auntie asked me to post this on the forum for one of our friends whom ordered an Uddha Sword with guard.

My new uddha sword. Well worth the wait! Thank you! I don't know how to put this on the forum, but you can if you wish. Thank you.

I know absolutely nothing about Uddha swords but I know I like the looks of that very much. Beautiful sword.

Wow very cool, how long is that?

Slightly larger than a 9pt bucks rack? ;) :D
I'm not sure, I was only forwarded the pic and info you see above.
We will have to wait and see if the owner chimes in with more specific details.

The Uddha is a great minimalist sword. I rather like the look of it with the guard on it:)

Well what do ya think Bawanna? 2"/point=18"+2 inches hanging off right side=20"+3 inches hanging off the other end= 23" is my guess:rolleyes: Beautiful sword! Looks super fast!

Dude, if you say it's 23" I'm carving 23" in a stone tablet. I learned my lesson with you last time with the red neck cinder block.

I do however in my own humble opinion agree, I'd guess right close in that same neighborhood myself.

My uddha is about 23 1/2 inches and the proportions look the same.

With that guard it reminds of the large blade in my hunting trousse. Group it up with a YCS Karda and a good pricker and you'd have an awesome trousse set.

The Uddha sword has not been around too much lately. They are a very nice indeed. Don't know why I never pulled the trigger on one.

Is there any historical significance to the Uddha. I guess I'm wondering where the name came from, who originally thunk it up etc.
My limited brain capacity doesn't allow much learning and retention but my curiosity is completely out of control.

My wife is in the kitchen cutting celery for a graduation picnic we're going to shortly. She mentioned as I rolled by that she wished she had a REAL knife. I told her I'm on it but she ain't getting none of mine. I'll share but she has a nasty habit of not giving back things she likes.

Well looks like ndoghouse hit it pretty darn close to the mark once again. Kind of magical ain't it?
I'd love to hold one of those, bet it feels pretty nice in hand.

My Uddha Sword is 23" long and 33 oz in weight; spine is 5/16" thick. Chiruwa style handle in flame chandan, made by Bura.

I wouldn't trade mine for anything, but I really like the looks of the one in this post. The shape of the handle butt is really nice. The guard gives the knife a more finished look and a slight edge on safety (no pun intended). Even though the usual model without the guard is fairly safe, I suppose you might hurt your forward finger if you stabbed the blade through a car door or something equally senseless.

I have heard that this type of blade is common in the region of Afghanistan. Of course the HI kamis put their own spin on any design that they adopt. I don't dare get into the debate over what is "traditional" but I like an overbuilt knife as long as it's not too heavy to use. I'd say the Uddha Sword is very practical, especially if you have a lot of enemies. "You're not paranoid if they're really out to get you." :)

Added a little later: My posting crossed with the one by Berkley, but he confirms that the design originated in and around Afghanistan. It's interesting that all the historical knives in his photos do have guards. The Uddha blades made by HI don't have a T-section stiffener at the spine, but the spine is fairly thick and the usual HI fullers below the spine create somewhat the same functionality as a T-section: reducing weight without reducing strength.
