Special Police Initiative

No harm no foul,Corduroy.Only here could you punch in police and special and get an obscure WW 11 unit.I still don`t think they were police.It isn`t in the name and they did not do traditional police things,unlike the Geheimstaatspolizi.Jim has a point but, the Python,Dimondback,Bushmaster,Viper and Skorpion now come to mind.Anyone found the Einsaatsgrouppon?The grouppen would indicate mil.I hope that we are not taxing Sal`s sufferance here,it does go back to knife names.

I have found this group quite entertaining on most issues with new (on occassion remote) insight. I've been guilty myself of "swerving" threads. This forum is supposed to be a comfortable and knowledgable experience.

I jotted this down several months ago;

"Intimate strangers of the Net Forums. Star Trek minds lend new meaning to "ships passing in the night"

Moderating this forum is a tough job, but somebody's gotta do int.

Thanks Sal,curiosity is a sure sign of an active mind.I dislike censorship, even if self imposed.I`ve lived under it.If you call a superior officer a fat bastard,the fact that he is overweight and has no father`s name on his birth certificate, is no defense. It is a step down a very slippery slope, and it robs us of the diversity of language;the very cultural diversity that it seeks to protect in this case.In any event, the genie is long out of the bottle.

This has clearly gone beyond the scope of Spyderco,may I suggest that we take it to the poly. si. forum?

Well, it sounds like everyone has bought into the concept of the knife in question. I guess that is a good thing. Although, I don't know why you'd mate the blade to a Rescue handle, as opposed to the Calypso (Sr.) hanle. Both seem to be great designs, allowing you to 'choke up' on the blade with the choil <?> integrated between the blade and handle. Just make the Micarta handle out of zytel.

As for names, if it needs to be politically correct, why not the Emergency Response Knife (ERK)

. Implies it would only be used in response to an emergency? Whether it was to cut someone free, or defend oneself from imminent danger.

Sorry, forgot to take my meds this morning, and I'm rambling a bit.

the Rescue handle is slightly better than the Calypso. Not much, but still better. Also better looks. IMHO the old Civilian handle is the best Spydie handle ever. The Rescue comes pretty close to it. The Endura and Delica handles seem to be designed for people with (very) small hands. Or is it that my hands / tentacles are the size of toilet-seats? I guess I´m deformed...

I agree that the Rescue handle and Civilian handle are fabulous for one grip (though I prefer my G-10 Civie to my Aluminum on function alone), but I like the ability to "choke up" that the Calypso offers. I think that better suits blades that are less single-purpose than the Rescue and Civilian.

Also, I feel that in a well-designed knife the handle and blade "speak" to one another. Blades and handles should not be thought of as totally separate, mix-and-match items, IMO.

Have you seen the special Ironstone "Flat Iron Folder?" It's a rescue with a sort of drop-point blade. Might be just what you're looking for.

Still pushing for just a plain old Zytel Calypso Sr.
