Not quite sure how to begin this, so I'll just dive in. . . I drink. . . I drink a lot. . . I apparently drink too much. . . . . And sometimes I do really stupid things when I drink. . . I do nearly all of my designing with Johnny Walker Blue by my side and with quite a bit of assistance from Ol' Mabel Black Label. . . .This sort of lays the foundation for my story of woe. . .
The NWSAR 5 wasn't supposed to go into production. . . EVER! The NWSAR 4 model was supposed to be produced instead! The 4 model is a slightly modified version of the 5 model. . . . It has a wider blade, which gives it a more substantial guard. It also features a little belly in the handle, like most Busses and the handles are thinner and more contoured, as opposed to the overly robust claw-hammer-like handles of the NWSAR 5.
So, why did we make the NWSAR 5? Well, in my drunken stupor, I gave the wrong drawings to our production team with the directive that the SAR project had to be done ASAP!!! Needless to say, they got busy . . . Garth and his production team worked around the clock to get these done in time for Knob Creek and the Eugene show. The Busse Combat production team really knows how to put a piece into production overnight. . . That's usually a good thing. . . this time, maybe not so much. . . . By the time I caught the mistake, we had a pile of nearly finished NW SAR5's. . . . YOWZA!!!. . . They had made this model off of my original drawings and not my finalized renditions. . . . Who let me play?. ..
So, I have a one-time run of a new model that I don't much care for. . . In fact, I can't stop barking about how much I dislike this knife!!!!. . . The handles feel too round for me, and the blade seems too narrow. . . This knife does not scream Busse in its basic design elements. . . perhaps, for some, that is a good thing!. .. For me, it just doesn't make it. . . .
So, is there anything good about it? Well, they do look cool ! ! !. . . and they are INFI. . . the convex grinds are flawless,. . . . they have very substantial handles that will work well with gloves or without as long as you like the feel of a claw hammer!
. . . and they are tough! . . . And that's a good thing because once you get your hands on one of these Hog-ugly disgraces, you're gonna want to beat it stupid. . . . . I know I did!!!
So, what do we do? I know we could offer them at the regular price and they would all be gone quickly. But I wouldn't feel right about that since this model did not come out as I had planned. So, now what? Do we scrap them? Well, that was my initial plan, but it turns out that nearly all of the guys in the shop like this knife!!! (They obviously drink too much as well) . . . They think I dislike it because it is so different from what we normally make. . . they are right about that. . . and I can assure you that we are NEVER going to make this model again NEVER, EVER!!!! Because of that, they will be rare, very rare!.
I want these monuments to my perforated liver to disappear fast, so, I'm going to cut the price way down with one stipulation. The low price comes with a no negative comments agreement!!! . . . That means that you get an unbelievable price on some high performance INFI but you agree not to make any negative comments about this blade because I have already done that for you. . . If you want to complain about this knife. . . you have to pay the full price!!!
. .
So, here is pricing that you will NEVER see again on a Busse Combat model of this size!!!. . . Instead of being priced at $227.00 with micarta handles, these rare birds will be priced at a ridiculous $167.00!!! And instead of $247.00 for the G-10 handled version the price will only be $187.00 !!!!
There is NO LIMIT on how many you can buy . . . I just want them gone, because once they're gone. . . they're gone for good!!!
These are tentatively scheduled to be offered this Friday night (4-11-08) between 9:00pm and 10:00pm Eastern. . .
Mark my words. . . . I will never drink again!!!! ( Oops. . . I'm drinking now!)
