Special Sebenza

Yes, ALL sebenzas are special, but getting one for your 37 years will be an added special bonus to You for all your hard work and dedication. Mammoth and damascus would be nice, but personally I would go with a custom engraved plain sebenza direct from CRK. If you order a new one from CRK directly, you can get colored logo's, wording, etc. If you buy a plain one and send it in, your limited to Blasted over wording and Logo's or Reverse Contrast. ALL are nice. Something stating your years of service I think would be quite special. Regardless of what you go with, it will Always be Special To You...!!!

Heather already confirmed that CRK will not engrave the logos of the two departments where I have spent my time in the fire service because the logos are branded property.

A mammoth bark Sebenza will be my choice. Now I am just looking for the one with the right character.

That sounds like a great choice....thank you for your many years of service. Though I've never lived in either city it is comforting to know there are still those out there who willingly pledge their lives in defense of their fellow citizens.....well done sir!!

OK. If I were in your shoes, here's exactly what I would do. I'd contact Rick Hinderer and buy an XM-18 3.5" flipper at factory pricing. Then I'd buy a Gold Membership, sell the XM-18 on the Exchange for at least twice what I paid for it, and purchase a matching Large and Small Sebenza with the proceeds. That's what I call a win-win situation. Whoever you sell the Hinderer to will be happy because they'll end up with a brand new XM and you'll be happy because you'll end up with two Sebenzas for the price of one.

Not bad, eh? ;)

LOL.....What an Original Idea.... Lol. I never bought one direct from Hinderer, but certainly have sold One Hinderer to fund two CRK more times than I can count.

Thanks. Sometimes the businessman in me gets the better of me. ;) Besides, being a first responder is difficult, dangerous work. But it has its advantages. Being able to purchase XMs at MSRP from Rick Hinderer is certainly among them. After all, where else can someone go to safely and effectively double their money overnight?

For a first responder, a Hinderer XM purchased directly from the factory isn't just a knife . . . it's a GOLD MINE!!! And the fact that it isn't worth more intrinsically than the manufacturer is willing to sell it for isn't likely to dawn on the secondary market anytime soon.

PS: I've just got to throw this in. People keep talking about how expensive Sebenzas are. Let me tell you something. From the standpoint of what XMs sell for on the secondary market, Sebenzas are SCREAMING BARGAINS!!!

Lol, it's not about how to fund the Sebenza, its about finding one with a little extra meaning. I wouldn't flip a Hinderer like that because I believe it would violate the trust of Mr. Hinderer.

But, since this is the CRK forum, I'll get it back on track. I'm considering a red cabachon (sp?) insert (if they have one) in the production hole and engraving the Maltese cross (long time symbol of FFs) with the red as the center. I think there is just enough room for it. If so, it would be on a plain 21 Insingo. Then, I would have "MDFR" & "FDNY" engraved in the panels of the cross.

Now that's CLASSY!!!!!! Nice sounds really nice too!!!

Really? I wasn't aware there was any "trust" to be violated, but if you say so . . .

Let's not statrt a Hinderer debate in the CRK forum. Personally, I don't think it's right to have a special privelage to be able to buy direct because of what I do, and then make a profit because the aftermarket will pay double. That's just me and what I believe.

Please let this go, everyone, and get back on topic.

I want a special CRK Sebenza and would like suggestions.

Fair enough.

You're an honest man, and its good to see class like this  You're right, and I feel the same way.

I think that is a great idea for a FF. You may want to talk with them about the insert, and if they can do it.
It really does sound like it would be a very special knife for a retired FF. I love your idea.
Let us know what you decide on please.

If I see any more talk of other manufacturers here, I will remove ALL OF IT, with potential warnings to follow. The idea of violating another manufacturer's policy does not belong in this forum. It is an insult to Chris Reeve's own integrity.

Here is the request I just sent Heather. I'll post her reply and keep my fingers crossed.

Hi Heather, I have a new idea for a special order I would like to run by you. A large, plain 21 Insingo with Almandine Garnet cabochon. The garnet would be the center of a Maltese Cross engraved around it. The Maltese cross (example attached) is the universal symbol of firefighters.

I think there is enough room to fit the engraving if the border of the cross runs through the rear standoff and lanyard holes. In the top panel "MDFR" would be engraved, "FDNY" in the bottom, "1976" in vertical orientation on the left and "2013" on the right.

The garnet should be as red as possible and the engraving black and fairly bold to read well. If this is possible, then I would have other info engraved on the lock side, something like:

Chief David Wood - 37 Years of Firefighting

Let me know if this is possible..

PS If this could be done on the Glorious CGG where the tail end of the flag would seem to fly behind the cross, it would look awesome.

Here is a crude look at the design:

I was wondering what they'd say to your other idea, although it kinda sucks that you couldn't get it I'm thinking that it was a good thing; now you'll hopefully get the knife that you described above, in my humble opinion that'd be an outstanding, amazing, and well thought out gift to yourself.
I'm very excited to see this one when its done, please update us all when you have the time.

I have a UG Ol glory reverse silver graphic Large 21 with Ladder Damascus that I bought off of my good friend Blackend that Honors my Father. For him the Flag represents his Service in the Marine Corpse during Vietnam and the ladder Damascus represents his lifelong career as a builder/carpenter- never owned a work truck that didn't have a ladder on top of it.
Although we lost him a month ago tomorrow ill never part with that knife, nor do I think you will with yours. Enjoy it and your retirement in great health.

I almost forgot, you should get it with Ladder Damascus as in me mind it'd represent the fire service well- especially for you big city boys.
