Specific 1095 HT question about time

i have been messing with making knives from 1095 using stock removal for about a year and half now. I was taught to heat treat 1095 using a torch which I now know is a little poor method for 1095.

The last 5 or 6 knives I have used an oven. Using the temp on the oven I was overheating the blades and showing horriable decarb. So I bought a digital thermometer and a J thermocouple. The oven temp gauge was reading about 100 degrees low. So I split the difference and and ran the thermocouple at 1500 and the oven temp gauge 1400. I was still getting decarb. I would put the blades in the oven cold and turn on the oven and bring everything to temp and soak for 10 minutes. I know this is still wrong.

The last two blades I brought the oven to 1500 and put the blades in for 20 minutes. Them quenched in cooking oil pre heated to 120. The blistering problem seems to have went away.

I still need to drop the temp another 25 degrees to 1475 on the thermocouple.

My question is this. I have been told that time at temp should be 1 hour for 1 inch of material thickness. So for 5/32 blades that would be nine minutes at temp. So do they need that 9 minutes to get to temp and then soak for 10 minutes because it is 1095. So bring oven up to 1475 then place blades in there for 19 minutes. 9 minutes to get 5/32 material to temp and then 10 minutes soak for 1095.

Or just place the blade in there for 10 minutes. And pull it and quench?

Sorry to post another 1095 question but I couldn't find a specific answer anywhere about he time at temp.

Thank you. That is what I needed to know. I figured the times didn't nessecarlly need to by cumulative but was trying to make sure. I have been reading every thread and website I can find for a couple of months now on the heat treat of 1095
