So right now i have the blade cut out and the "liners"

The liners are made out of stainless steel. Can I cut one of these to act as the "lock" or does it HAVE to be some sort of spring steel or TI?

Some other questions are ..... well how do i put these pieces together?

I understand the basic design of the liner lock , its the specifics about the hardware that i have questions about.

For example the length of the hardware , and more importantly that tapping needed for the liners.

Im assuming the tapping needs to be very straight for this to work , is doing this with a basic cheap tap and die kit possible? or will i need some sort of fixture or something to get this done?

Any other tips or advice would be appriciated

Yes you need some titanium or will have to spring temper a steel. .045 to .060 will work well for a liner lock. There will be a need for a spacer or stand offs. Yes taping the holes requires the right size holes for the taps being used and alignment care is an absolute must.
Here is what I suggest. Make a pattern with a pivot hole and find out if your blade and liners will fit. Go to the "search" in the forums here and enter linerlock or maybe liner lock. I believe you need to expand your overall knowledge of a liner lock before you go any further or it will become a "nightmare" for you. Frank

what would i need to make sure my taps are straight?

Im assuming a regular tap and die kit wont be able to do this , i think i saw a picture somewhere of like some sort of vertical fixture for doing this.

a tapping guide or using a mill (turned off) to start the tapping is common to make sure the tap is straight. but at the same time the holes have to be straight too.

Drill the holes straight in a drill press

put the tap in the drill press and turn it by hand too, very simple and effective.
