Remember Not all cold steel knife tangs are like the pic.
As far as i know the laredo is the only one with this kind of tang.
i've seen naked pics of the Trailmaster/Recon Scout etc and they all have regular wide and full tangs under the kraton.

There is actually an x-ray photo of the Laredo and the Natchez tangs posted in a thread here somewhere.

Had an SP10 from Ontario for years. The steel is quite soft and prone to chipping. I'm not too fond of the handle either.
It hasn't broken however, and I had another Ontario which did, quickly...

Good chopper, and of course defensively it's obviously good.

I've got an SP6 & I've had it for years. I have thrown it a bunch and did a bit of cutting on some vegetation back when it had the factory edge. No problems but not the best cutter in the world... And the grinds were not exactly straight either. No big deal though; I recently had the edge re-profiled and WOW - it cuts GREAT now LOL. IMO you cannot go wrong with a Spec Plus from Ontario - they are allot of knife for the money.

The Kabar Heavy Bowies are excellent too. They are made in Tiawan if that matters to you - my only real complaint with them is the HUGE handles. They are too big for averaged sized hands IMO - but handle size is subjective...

I'll offer a very low cost 3rd alternative: The Cold Steel 12" Bowie machete. Long as you don't mind it being made in China and have the ability to have an edge ground onto it, you have a very serviceable "machete-bowie" that takes a wicked edge. For ~$20 it is the "best buy" IMO: http://www.888knivesrus.com/product/CS97BW12S/COLD_STEEL_97BW12_BOWIE_MACHETE_12.html

Hey guys

Your knowledge saw me right with my Gerber LMF now I need your help again..

I want to add a large blade to my collection and I'm stuck:confused:

I've narrowed it down to the SpecPlus Marine Raider Bowie and the Kabar Cutlass Machete

Which do you reckon would be better for brush clearing/wood splitting etc?

Any thoughts or info appreciated

Regards

SM

P.Ss I think I'm addicted to collecting knives now and I blame you lot!:p :D

Can’t go wrong the RC-4 it is rock solid. How do you like your LMF , and is it a LMF- 2 ? I have about beat mine to hell and it just takes it and ask for more… As far as Ontario goes until they get their act together I m not touching any more of their products. But I do own about six of their blades and they do make a decent blade…

I really like my LMF 2.. I used it to chop down a small tree in my garden and all that happened was the finish wore off a little. The serations have worn little bits of plastic out of the throat of the sheath but thats a real minor thing.
