Is there a site that has specs (blade length, overall lenght, etc.) for Busse models not currently in production?

And if there isn't, what's out there with a blade under 5 1/2 inches?

Everything is indeed bigger, but if you want to take it out in public, the Penal Code says it's got to be under 5 1/2 inches.

I just don't take my Penal out in public.:rolleyes:

Uhm, too much information! :o

anyhoo, my rotation is like this:
Heavy/Active Duty, good all a rounder
Meaner/Leaner Meaner Street, sometimes gathers more attention than I like
Mean Street, same as the Duty pair, good all arounder
BA3 and all variations thereof, good choice, drop points are rather non agressive.
BAe, its the top end of what I'd risk in public.

I dont have a Public Defender anymore but it was in my rotation when I had one. But kinda hard to justify, its a little agressive.

The Air Rescue Tac is a little controversial, some say the spine is another edge, some say its a band breaker. Not worth the risk.

As a leo friend of mine says, "Its not the legality of the blade, its the attitude of the carrier" Words to live by.

I'm thinking maybe a War Boar, just for fun. Technically, there's nothing in the law that specifically prohibits something that's sharpened on both sides. It just can't be a "dagger" (including but not limited to a dirk,
stilletto, and poniard). The law doesn't define "dagger," but I think they'd have a hard time making a case that it's anything other than a straight, stabbing weapon, which a kerambit most certainly is not.

Honest, Officer. It's not a weapon at all; it's a gardening tool.

John, you might want to read up on that.....while at Ft.Hood I was stopped in the town of Copperas Cove and was nearly arrested for having a utility knife in my truck that had about 2 inches of the top sharpened...it is considered a double edged dagger. Double edges are illegal from what I was told...could've been BS, but better look into it for yourself. Its funny you can carry a 5.5" blade in texas and my college allows 5" blades on it....anything over you need permission!

The average air speed velocity of a laden swallow carrying a coconut is determined by whether it is African or European...

States vary so much when it comes to this. In FL as long as it is not concealed, you can carry just about anything in a vehicle, including a firearm. And there is no mythical 3 step rule that I have heard about for the last 20 years.

I'm just going by what the statute says. It says "dagger," not double edged. Some cop might say a utility knife is a dagger, but I don't think it would ever hold up in court. At a minimum, the law would be void for vagueness as applied.

Texas Penal Code sec. 46.01(6):

"Illegal knife" means a:
(A) knife with a blade over five and one-half inches;
(B) hand instrument designed to cut or stab another by being thrown;
(C) dagger, including but not limited to a dirk, stilletto, and poniard;
(D) bowie knife;
(E) sword; or
(F) spear.

It's not illegal to own an "illegal knife," but you can't carry one in public, although the concealed handgun law was written in such a way that it appears that you can legally carry an illegal knife so long as you're also licensed to carry and actually are carrying a concealed handgun. As the law is written, since I have a concealed handgun license, I could legally and openly carry my Busse AK-47, so long as I was also carrying a concealed handgun. But if I left the gun at home, the sword would be illegal.

One thing about weapons laws-- They're uniformly stupid.

Dropped at the SAO or DO level. Common sense does come into play. :thumbup:

Granted the blade was about 8" but still clearly a utility knife....due to the swedge being sharpened it was "considered" a dagger

Cops and people in general are funny about knives.

I got pulled over a couple blocks from my house coming home from work, about 1:30AM for a burnt out tag light. Lame excuse, but it was mainly training for the rookie in the car. No big deal as his training officer was really cute and I've seen her before in the neighborhood and we had a nice chat.

Anyway, he wanted to search the van. No problem. Asked me if I had any weapons. Yes, I do. A condition 3 1911 in a gun bag inside my workbag between the seats. No problem, he found it, cleared it and safed it. I could hear all this, the lady officer and I were about 20' away leaning against the cruiser talking.

All of a sudden he pops out of the van, rushes back and demands why I didn't tell him about ALL the weapons. He's freaked, I'm confused and said so. He finally gets out,"That big knife in your bag, why didn't you tell me about it?"

It was a KaBar that I use at work to cut the cardboard off the rolls of printing paper and told him so and also told him I really didn't consider it a weapon especially when the 1911 was on top of it. The TO understood my thinking and why I didn't even think to mention it.

What got me was this. This guy very calmly safed the 1911, emptied the mag, locked the slide back and had it all on the seat like he was seperating the sections of a newspaper. But when he saw the knife, even in a sheath, it really affected him, like it had been a live snake or something.

It suprised me, but I never forgot the reaction.
