wow
i just tested my spectra slash proof gloves on my knives and all of them went from shaving sharp to barely able to cut paper
is this supposed to be normal?? or are my blades that bad?

mod trident, kershaw avalanche and kershaw scallion
cryo 154, s60v and 420
none of them showed this much wear from normal cutting

Knife edge, or Cutting material... one of them has to give... Spectra dulls knife edges very very quickly...

More than likely your blades are OK.
Spectra is polyethylene foil based material made by Allied-Signal Company for body armor ballistic inserts. Quite naturally it is very resistant against tear (this might be improper term, my technical English remains a lot to wish), however I didn’t notice if it is any abrasive or specially edge-blunting. Also, the body armors of the pure Spectra, without special inserts, usually are not too knife-proof and can be penetrated with good steal decently sharpened blade relatively easily.

Maybe your slash proof gloves are equipped with special anti-knife inserts, usually some layers of basic material coated with hard abrasive powder? Differently they wouldn’t be slash proof...

what i didn't realise was the extent of the blunting
all it took was 2 or 3 slices to really screw things up

sergiusz, the entire glove liner is made of spectra
good stuff :)
but it gets on the insides of the gloves
i have to remind myself to wash my hands after wearing them
