Speculation Over: January 2026 BOTM is Magacut 110 with a barehead, Micarta handle

I was wondering how long Magnacut would be the darling steel of the industy. Blade Magazine January 2026 has Dr. Larrin Thomas has announced the creation of "MagnaMax" steel will be the latest greatest steel of 2026. So with that said; A Buck 110 with MagnaMax steel.

I don't think MagnaMax will take the place of Magnacut. It seems like a tougher S110V, where Magnacut is more akin to a tougher S35VN. Knives with that much edge retention (S110V) are tough to sharpen and pretty niche, where S35VN and Magnacut are pretty user friendly.
I always liked S35VN because, for me, it had the right combination of edge holding, and toughness. Plus it was fairly easy to sharpen. I got my first Magnacut Buck a little over a year ago, and the Magnacut improves on the properties that I liked about S35VN. I'm an old codger, and don't like change, so I'll probably be staying with Magnacut for a few more years.

What will it be? What should it be? What do you wish it would be?

I see no pattern in the history, so I have no idea:

2018 January | 110 Folding Hunter
2019 January | 501 Squire
2020 January | 112 Ranger
2021 January | 722 SpitFire
2022 January | The 55
2023 January | 119 Special
2024 January | 117 Brahma
2025 January | 110 Hunter

The pattern is:

2018 110
2019 501

2025 110
2026 501

0f course, I will be totally wrong. But, if I am right I take full credit as a super genius : )

Looks like it's posted.
