I don't understand how this thing works. What does it mean by "setting the hook"? Is that kind of like when you jerk the pole back after you get your first bite?
I've only been fishing maybe twice.
When you set the hook on a fish you generally jerk the rod like you said. This just keeps you from having to do it. I think this would be good for young and new anglers untill they figure out the whole setting the hook thing.

The benefit of having a Speedhook is not using it with a cane pole or any type of pole. It's like a twitch-up (sapling) snare used for fishing but you don't have to make the twitch-up snare to do it. You just bait it, secure the line to a stake in the ground or a tree, etc., throw it in the water and then you go and make snares for other animals, forage for food or kill bunnies and squirrels with your slingshot while the Speedhook does its thing in the water by its lonesome.
