Speedhooks (survival)

I bought some from Bestglide a few years ago. I used them once on a truncated trot line. I didn't catch any fish, but I caught a big frog. I didn't eat it...
 
That would be about the only reason to attend Oprah's show. :D

Free survival gear given out to the audience like she did cars a few years ago. I bet the trashcans would be full on the way out to the parking lot, then we could get more stuff. Especially if Tony was with us, trashpicker. :D
 
I don't understand how this thing works. What does it mean by "setting the hook"? Is that kind of like when you jerk the pole back after you get your first bite?

I've only been fishing maybe twice.

When you set the hook on a fish you generally jerk the rod like you said. This just keeps you from having to do it. I think this would be good for young and new anglers untill they figure out the whole setting the hook thing.

The benefit of having a Speedhook is not using it with a cane pole or any type of pole. It's like a twitch-up (sapling) snare used for fishing but you don't have to make the twitch-up snare to do it. You just bait it, secure the line to a stake in the ground or a tree, etc., throw it in the water and then you go and make snares for other animals, forage for food or kill bunnies and squirrels with your slingshot while the Speedhook does its thing in the water by its lonesome.

I agree that you would not use it with a pole for survival reasons. But a guy needs to test his equipment and that would be a good way to test it out. :D

:confused: Errah...no, the best way to test it out would be to secure the line, bait and chunk it in the water and go whittle a trap trigger or something and see how it works as you would want it to in a survival situation.
