Speeding, just a little

I got a speeding ticket every year and a half to two years from the time I was 16 until I was 30, I liked fast cars and driving fast, owned several V8 Mustangs, and paid the price. In the 8+ years since I turned 30 I've been pulled over 6-8 times, but always have gotten off with a warning. I guess growing older has at least one advantage. My driving hasn't changed much, but my situational awareness has.

When I get pulled over now, they always check my record, see that it is clean, give me a bit of a talking to, and let me go. Here in Ohio tickets drop off after three years, so before I was 30 I nearly always had at least one ticket on my record, so when I was pulled over again they tended to give me a ticket most of the time, presumably because of my dirty record, my age, and the kind of cars I was driving.

Funny thing is my wife didn't get her first speeding ticket until she was 32 or 33, and has now gotten two since my last ticket. She doesn't typically drive as fast as I do on a regular basis, but unfortunately when she does speed she isn't terribly aware of the speed limits or the cop car sitting 1/4 mile ahead in a speed trap.

Always plead Not Guilty to a speeding ticket. Then get in touch with the ADA and see if they'll agree to let you plead guilty to a lesser charge. It's a game, and that's all it is.

You to really need to watch your speed in PA, since Big ED is looking for all the money he can get at this time.

Only ticket I ever got was at a no u-turn for 1 hour. Apparently it was that 1 hour of the day and a cop decided I was a good choice to get pulled over.

I'd look into fighting that ticket,I've never been aware of any police in PA using any kind of moving radar. The fines are one thing but once your insurance company gets a hold of it,you usually end up paying double, anymore,it very seldom ever hurts to fight a ticket.

Luckily? it was in NY so it's the fine and that'll be it,

I got caught a year ago heading to a job in my work truck. My boss actually paid the fine for me (I had a get-out-of-jail-free card :D) but he said that none of our jobs are important enough to speed to. That was fine with me - I'll take a nice leisurely drive to the job location and get paid the same for driving slow as for driving fast.

Just call me Torz "the tortoise" Johnson from now on.

Yah, as I say, I'm usually one of the 'safe' speeders, just over the limit, not enough
to bring attention, just that day I was speeding, a lot for me and I kept slowing down
as I saw the needle breach 70 a few times, but, I was in a hurry, time crunch and that
throws reason out the window a lot of times ;)

Well I am glad you were O.K. is the end Gary..... A friend of mine was also charged with driving to endanger for a very similar case. I might just speed a knife to you some time soon! (procrastination sucks! :D)

Gary,
I think your honesty to the officer was unprecedented. "Getting away from you officer." We all know that policemen hear more lies in a days work than most of us. He was probably amused at you telling the truth. My wife is the same way. It is almost harder to bear the guilt with my wife than pay the fine. Double jeopardy none the less. I admire your beaconality of light Mr. Graley!

A little up date and thanks guys,

Got the ticket in the mail, came to $175 for that bit of speeding, ugh!

When I went in to pay it, met the Judge, told him the story, he got a kick out
of that and said he was sorry for the big amount that NY state adds to the ticket.

But that's all done and over, again, I normally don't drive that fast, gas and such
I just don't usually need to get somewhere that fast, as the time saved doesn't usually
outweigh the other possible consequences...

:)
