Spending more on an EDC?

Get the Cryo. Get it into your pocket and bang on it regularly.

Sharpen the hell out of it. Get your sharpening technique down until you can do it while watching TV.

Get a feel for how much use and abuse it will take, how much it can do between sharpenings.

Then start collecting aluminum cans, giving blood, rolling pennies and nickels, and socking away until you have enough for the Camber.

Then come back here and you can tell us just what you get for the extra $50 bill. You'll be a salty BFC contributor in no time.

Thanks....I needed to hear that!!!

I was thinking of even going down to the $24 Kershaw RJ Tactical 3.0 (same blade, flipper, and really like the looks) but the pocket clip doesn't allow deep pocket concealment.

Great post.

OP, while there are other very valuable inputs and opinions, you would be very, very well served should you decide to heed the above advice by Velitrius. Just do it.....

I went through this decision myself. I am lucky to be able to afford what I want but I have some low end (under $100) and some mid ($101-150) , and several high.$150-$450.)
One of my daily carry is the Taiwan made RAT Model 1, it is a winner from the start. I have several mid cost mostly Kershaw, but my daily carry is a DPX HEST with the best German blade and it's cost is in the $200+ buck range.
Shop around you you will be able to fins something useful in each cost range.

That pocket clip is still deeper than some and that slight but sticking out is only really noticeable to people who'll notice deep carry clips for most part

This is the Deal of the Century! Especially since it's the G10 and not the Slick version.

I bought the kershaw thermite, a $35 hinderer designed frame lock knife. Then I bought a Zt 0562, a $200 hinderer designed frame lock knife. The thermite can not hold up against the 0562. The blade steel is inferior, the hardwear that holds the knife together is inferior. The strength of the frame itself on the thermite is not as strong. There is flexing felt in the thermite, the lock bar is not as strong and has failed more than once. What looks like a similar knife visually is completely different when put through the paces of use. The 0562 is a better knife in every way. Yes $165 better. And has lasted longer. I hung up the thermite a long time ago. The 0562 just keeps going.

And just one of the reasons I love this forum. The generosity is simply amazing.

This is why the knife community rocks!

Membership obtained and PM sent.

I GREATLY appreciate this incredibly generous offer!!!

Cannot wait to receive the knife and start carrying it! Hopefully this will start me on my knife collecting/using journey and maybe one day I can pass on one of my knives with the same generosity as you are showing!

Again, thank you for the offer and I am grateful for it, as well as all the help shown by you and everyone else here on the forum----you all are an awesome group of gentlemen/ladies!!!

It was a tough plunge for me to start spending on nice knives. But once you start its down hill. Although cheapies work and cut stuff the difference is night and day. I used to argue why spend 200 when my 8 dollar ozark trail field dresses a deer just fine.... And I am right my Ozark I still have is excellent design but material is awful, I just never worried about chipping and hardly ever sharpened my knives. Just learning how to sharpen my knives correctly opened my eyes to how nice it is to use a sharp knife. And then buying a decent knife I learned how nice it was to use a sharp knife that stays. That said once you learn about "good" steels you can find very great knives at reasonable prices. And visa versa helps you from getting ripped off. good luck and have fun.

Ugaarguy: You, sir, are a gentleman. Good Show!
TripleB67: Welcome to BF. Use the knife in good health in the same spirit in which it was gifted. After you break it in, would love to hear your thoughts on it - maybe post a review of you putting it thru its paces.

Yes...he definitely is!!! He has already shipped it and should be here by Saturday or Monday! CANNOT WAIT!!!

I appreciate the Welcome...amazing group of people here...for about 15 years I've been collecting tennis racquets (depending on what I keep and sale I usually have around 125; with 80 of them hanging on my computer room walls)...with all the great people here and all the beautiful knives on the market, I may start collecting them. I've got a 1905 tennis racquet...how much would a 1905 knife cost me?

I like the idea of me posting something....a newbie's experience with his first quality knife. I'll definitely try to do that!!!

I'm one of the few risk takers that carry my best knives. I'm not a collector so when i spend the money on a very nice knife its because of quality and durability. To me, if I get into a situation where its critical i have a well made tool, I want to make sure its not sitting at home looking pretty.

That being said, my $150 benchmade served me just as well as my $500 hinderer. I also get great use out of a $4 folding box cutter knife from lowes when i'm volunteering at habitat for humanity and generally abusing it... so sometimes price is irrelevant. I guess my 2cents are "buy what you can afford, and put it to good use".
