My wife wanted to "go somewhere" today, to celebrate the end of Summer. Our daughter starts third grade on Tuesday, and her Japanese school continues on Saturday. We decided to drive to San Francisco. It's an hour north of San Jose. We go there about once every two years or so.

The original intent was to visit the aquarium. We have never been there, and now we know why. It is not very impressive compared to the one in Monterey. Anyway, we enjoyed it. In the "touch" area, one of the manta-like creatures was overly friendly, and came out of the water often, to be touched. I was able to capture one of those times:

We had lunch at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company at Pier 39:

Out on the pier proper, there were hundreds of sea lions taking in the sun:

The high point of the day was a one-hour cruise, out beyond the Golden Gate Bridge, and then around Alcatraz:

Nice pics Ken. We were there a couple of years back. My wife was more interested in Ghirardelli than Alcatraz though. :D

We ate somewhere on Pier 39, and she still talks about how good those crab legs were.

Looks likes you had a good time.

I think I see Tony riding up there in the Marin headlands. :D

Great pictures! Thanks for sharing that.

My end of the summer is next spring...:grumpy: I may get a little time off near Christmas but I am busy through next May...

Been there a number of times. We love the aquarium and Japanese Gardens in Golden Gate park. I lived in Lodi near Sacramento. It is a good place to take the family. You do great work photographing knives. I have used some of your work as the background on my monitor.

Looks like a fun trip and a wonderful family. You`re a lucky guy. Do Japanese schools in the States follow a schedule like here in Japan, April to March?

Sore ja, ganbatte ne.

great pics and thanks for sharing. San Fran is a great looking city but it is a shame that do all that crazy liberal crap to ruin a great place to live.... tree hugging #%$#!@# :)

Hey man, tree-hugging is fine in my book, as long as we're talking about AAA-grade Claro or French walnut... ;)

Mmmm… I have been in San Francisco for 52 of my 55 years and as much as there is some stupid liberal politics I can’t say that it really affects living here in any significant way. I mean really even Lunde lived through a day here.

Hey Ken you must have passed within ½ mile of my house on that boat ride. Which boat were you on?

.

San Francisco has an aquarium? I was thinking about heading up there on Saturday but the concert in the park and thought of bad traffic scared me away?

Well the City's aquarium is under reconstruction and is in Golden Gate Park. It reopens in 2009. It is right across from the DeYoung. I'm not sure who runs that small one at Pier 39:confused:

Yeah, I survived... ...barely. ;)

Heck, I should count my blessings, because all three Busses that I left to guard my Infiniti were still there when we left.

We were on the Blue & Gold Line that left Pier 39 at 2:30PM. That one hour period was truly the high point of the day.

Have to admit San Francisco is one of the nicest cities I've been in. The fall is amazingly beautiful. My wife and I love going there during that time of year. Have to agree that I don't care for it's or the Bay Area's politics in general but Tony's right, as of yet it hasn't caused me not to enjoy myself thoroughly.

when i was in SF tony took me to lunch where feinstein happened to be dining, i could clearly see her carry piece imprinting under her blouse. question... how come she was carrying but doesn't want tony to carry?
