Just wanted everyone to know what I think of the Knifemaking Community. They are a great bunch of people!!!
In the past month, Ive had the opportunity to visit two different knifemakers, Ron Newton (forger) and Michael (L6Steel)Cooper (stock removal). Let me tell you, both of these guys are as nice a people you will ever meet. They both gave out advice freely, without hesitation, and both recommended places to go to get the basic equipment for me to get started making my own knives.
Being able to see both techniques also enables me to figure out what I want to do when I finally start making knives. It also gave me the opportunity to figure my initial start-up cost, based on the equipment required.
Last evening, I went to see L6Steel at his workshop. He is one of the nicest guys Ive ever met. He took the time to tell me the process (step-by-step). He even let me ruin (I mean grind) one of his blanks. He showed me his handle material, both natural and synthetic. Michael has invited me back to let me get some grinding time in.
I just thought you all would like to know what a great bunch of people you are involved with on this forum.

Ps L6Steel needs to update his website! He no longer has that beard and long hair. Looks half-way sane now!
