I am a long time knife collector but first time to bladeforums. I have been trying to find reliable information on a Spetnaz spring-loaded knife I have seen mentioned in several reference texts and articles in the past.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

I assume you've exhausted Google.......correcting the spelling to "Spetsnaz spring-loaded knife" increases the count threefold.

Our resident expert on the subject is actually Vampire Gerbil who is recovering from a bit of illness right now but is expected back shortly. He's made some very interesting posts here on the forum in the past and, as I recall, has pictures on his website.

You might also try searching both here on the forum and in ixquick (not google since google is anti-knife) for "balistic knife."

You may also wish to be aware that balistic knives are federally-illegal in the US.

I think that this is an modern Urban Legend started by Viktor Suvorov - former GRU defector - nor writer and historian:

http://www.lib.ru/WSUWOROW/specnaz_engl.txt
http://www.lib.ru/WSUWOROW/intelligence_engl.txt
http://www.lib.ru/WSUWOROW/army_engl.txt

but on russian knife forums nobody ever saw it all stated that only they have in SU Army was AK bayonet. I saw what Vampire Gerbil have on his webpage - IMHO it does look like some custom made things. In SU and Russia prisoners in labor camps making amaizing knives. That one may be one of this things.

This is the place to ask:

Thanks, Vassili.

Interesting that this thread would pop up. There is a fellow at a local flea market with one of those in his knife display case.

I saw an article in a gun or knife mag. They are called ballistic knives and are considered illegal. They may be called automatic knives in the article.. The blade launaches out like at bullet and has a range or 5-20 ft.

I remember reading about them years back, completely forgot about them until The Punisher movie, when Castle popped one off into a hitman's jugular. He waved a bali around some too, good flick for weapons fun.

ot, but gun nuts will dig a Japanese flick called Versus, you have to wade through horrible dialog and buckets of shear zombie carnage, but it's a gun-rich flick, some pretty nice, fairly rare stuff too, and old Automag, one of the Beretta machine pistols, forget the model #, but looks like an ordinary auto with a little fold down grip, sere set for 3 round bursts, a Barret, some other nice odds and ends.

I remember seeing these knives for sale at a gun convention in Vegas back in the early 90's.

Makes me wish I bought one or two for the collectability.

I own one of these knifes. Very cool piece. Here's a photo.

Thumper - welcome to Bladeforums! Unfortunately, this thread is almost 4 years old ! By the way, these knives are illegal in most, if not all states.

Welcome to Bladeforums!

Didja notice the last post is from 2004?
I don't know if Jack Black is still watching the thread. :)
