Ranger Knives was founded in 2001 by former Army Ranger Justin Gingrich, who focused on production of large, durable fixed blades suitable for use by military personnel. Demand for his knives gradually exceeded his capacity to make them and he sold Ranger Knives to Ontario Knife Co. in 2008.
This Ranger RD-7 knife was made by Mr. Gingrich while he still owned the company. It is an earlier model with a spear point and a bird's peak pommel (see photos). The knife measures 13 inches in overall length, weighs just under 18 oz. and features a black-coated blade of 5160 high carbon spring steel measuring 8 inches long, 1-⅝ inches wide and¼-inch thick. The handle is brown Micarta (see photos).
The knife is in excellent unused and unsharpened condition, with its original edge and 99% of its original finish (see photos). There are a couple of spots on the spine and the underside of the ricasso where the finish has eroded, possibly from sheath wear – I've tried to show them in the photos. The knife ships with a quality replacement sheath from A.G. Russell (see photos), although the sheath has somewhat limited utility as the handle is too broad for the keeper straps to fasten around it.
Asking price is $200, which includes shipping via USPS Ground Advantage anywhere in the continental US.
