Hey Chris, That is one beautiful hawk, Love the head profile and the sheath is very nice work. You do great work.

Best regards

Robin

Hi Robin .
Thanks for the complements mate.

Hi Pullrich.
Its a slow rusting process used on damascus shot gun barrels .
Was going to just make a thrower but as you can see i just keept going a bit to much.
Thanks
Chris

Very nice...

I've been looking for a good browning recipe. Do you mind sharing? Have you used the commercially made gels?

Absolutely first rate, Chris. Rust blue was and still is the king of blued steel finishes. Wood, steel and leather all turned into a masterpiece.

Hi Stuart,
Thanks for the complements
love your hawks too mate.

Hi Richard appreciate thanks.

Hello Mossanimal.
Cant tell you what is in it ,its a old german formula for doing
shot gun barrels .was given to me years ago . its a rust process takes about a week to do .here a pic of the container sorry not much help there .
gels are never very good in my own opinion .

Hi Dusty real glad you like mate.

Hi Hawkhead,
I must agree with you the rust blueing or browning
is much better for sure than any other process and lasts a lot longer than the wipe on and wipe off stuff.
Thanks for the complements.
Chris

Terrific work! Exceptional!!

OK...now the question...DOES IT HAVE A HOME YET?

I'm interested...after all, it's Christmas!!! WAHOO!!!! :D

let me know - thanks!

Hi Robin ,

Yes, I've used Casey Birchwood browning, it involves heating the metal until liquid sizzles on it and then brushing on the solution. Card off the 'rust', repeat until you get the color you like. You can get it done in an hour or so in my experience.

I was just wondering how this German solution differs, because you mentioned a week-long process.

Thats a fine look'n hawk. There is a recipe that involves boiled down horse urine but Id say most folks wouldent want to fool with that :D

Hi Pullrich.
The rusting process used on custom rifles or shot guns is done over a few days i think maybe its more stable that way , Than a quick flash rust ,
Some use a cabinet with a heat source to humify ,just how you are using a heat source on the birchwood stuff,

Carding then boiling but if you boil it turn the rust into black oxide ,
you could also use caustic soda solution like most manufactures but you would get that blue black tho.

Hi Kentucky,
Thanks for the complements ,
Yes i think i will leave the horse one in the paddock for now ,
Thanks fellows .
Chris
