I thought I want do a little style change on the hawks I have been making from ball peen hammers. Here is what I came up with. Forged from 24 oz. hammer. White ash for the handle and lightly aged. What you think?

Really nice Stuart! Honestly I think the head could use a fancier handle. Really nice design.

I have followed your hawks with great interest for a while now but that one has a purity of form that made my jaw drop.

I like the "slight change". The simple handle really complements the lines of the head. A new classic is born.

Beautiful Stuart, simply beautiful. It's plain finish allows the superb architecture to show off. You have a fine eye for shape, and balance.

I have always liked your work but, I will have to agree with LRB on that one. Less is more!
Can I ask how you get that look of Pewter on the metal itself? I think that is one thing that has drawn me to your pieces!

Matt, I wanted this one to have the old and used look is the reason I didn't use the fancier handle. But I can see one in the near future with a fancy handle.

Thanks for all the kind words

The way I get the color is: First I cold blue and then soak in bleach for about 10 mins. I then boil it in plain tap water until the rust turns black. After boiling I rinse off all the black that with come off. I then wet sand with 800 grit and WD40 till I get the color I want. Hope this explains it.

As one who has had the pleasure of working with one of Stuart's hawk heads on a collaboration piece - I can say his work is top drawer all the way..........
I look forward to working with him some more... :D
