Does the Spike TV show "deadliest warrior" infuriate anyone else as much as it does me? that is possibly the most vacant and ill-concieved piece of television vomit i have ever seen. maybe im being sensitive because they are making a mockery of many of the things that i find extremely interesting and always pursue more knowledge of. they perpetualize stories and the "Awesome Factor" rather than trying to give the viewer a real idea of what that warrior and his culture stood for. Long live the History and Discovery Channel!!!!

No, your not alone, after seeing some of the follow-on shows I'm past being annoyed and now am just disappointed. The really sad part is that a lot of talented martial artists are on the show, just poor conception of what probably was a good idea. This 'reality t.v.' side bar remarks just does not cut it for. I don't watch it anymore.

I'm with you guys. I had so much hope for this show but I am disappointed. Determining who is deadliest is probably no easy task short of watching hundreds of actual fights between the said warriors. However, they could have done such a better job at actually quantifying the effectiveness of weapons. They don't seem to really understand how and when to use the weapons. The ones that seem "cooler" to the computer guy get a higher rating in his program and that determines his winner.

They don't know their weapons either.

On the most recent episode they mistook an AK74 (5.45x39) for an AK47 (7.62x39) and on another they didn't know the difference between a Walther P38 and a Luger.

There is a lot of subjectivity in the show, not to mention the fact that that they have really no true weapons experts, at least, not in the area of firearms. There is no discussion of comparative ballistics.

The show has a ton of flaws......

looked like a VTAC on the Green Beret table but wasn't tested. ATC's site says it was sen on apache vs. gladiator but I don't recal

Look for as I am concerned any show that has the opportunity to pit a ninja against a pirate and doesn't do it is not worth watching.:D

It is on Spike TV so it is more entertainment based than factual. There is a similiar program on the History Channel(I think it is called Warriors) which is quite factual but has less glitz than Deadliest Warrior. Also there is a thread in Prac Tac.

Also I thought the Bone Tomahawk in Apache vs Gladiator was cool. Wonder how much it weighed.

tell me about it. The fact that they did not put the knight against the Samurai and instead put him against the Pirate. Lame, and I mean Lame! I really love the fact that the Knight hits the pirate several times in the head with a morning star, and only knocks him over. The when it is an instant one hit kill weapon.

I have a huge problem with using ballistic medium as a test of edged weapon performance. It creates a ton of drag on a weapon. The swords have a difficult time cutting the medium. The same sword that only cut 1/3 the way through the gel dummie sliced through three pigs, bones and all. A trained cutter, or some one who spend their whole life doing it would be able to cut through 5 or 6 of those pigs. Ballistics gel is used for testing bullets. It has a ton of drag compared to cutting meat, especially wet meat, with blood still in it. With a big Khukri you can lop the head off a water buffalo, the neck of a water buffalo is a huge meaty bony cut to make.

The arrows only penetrate 2 inches or so into the ballistics gel. In a real person even a weak arrow can penetrate out your back even though clothes.

I thought the episode with Radio City Music Hall Chorus Line taking on the cast of The View was interesting. The choice of weapons was equally impressive The View chose pink handled smatchets while the chorus line girls chose scissors.

LMFAO...at work.

And yes, I agree with everything said. Anyone notice how the actual, qualified M.D. got very little air time on the pirate v. knight show, especially after he said that the gunshot wound probably wouldn't have killed the knight?

I gave it a shot at first, but after the pirate v. knight episode (which was like my brain getting kicked in the nuts by pop culture), I gave it up. I like how the computer guy's TOP SECRET SPECIAL ANALYSIS PROGRAM OF DOOM AND AWESOMENESS is basically Excel.

Die in a fire, Spike TV.

when a samurai sword met a viking sword. the iron sword would have failed epically. while the vikings were still trying to figure out the steel making process, the japanese had been making the finest steels that have ever been produced. ever heard of the sword of 1000 blades? its not just a myth. not to say that vikings were incredible warriors in their own right, but he would have been no match for a samurai. i also liked that mr. sogetsu mentioned Warriors. very informative show, while being quite entertaining. and i like terry schappert as a host, good guy and always willing to do what is asked of him by the various experts.

You can tell its going to be stupid by the choice of narrator (fake british prick),
and then you hear the teams start to trash talk, well you know its over.
It was cool watching chuck lidell slice some beef (he looked way out of shape).
Also saw Green Beret vs Spetsnaz, wow, dumbest by far (too dumb for words), dumber even than Mafia vs Yakuza (baseball bat advantage over Nunchaku, wow).

Not to mention the computer guy is only 20. I'm sure the only 'combat' he has seen is Mortal Kombat the video game. It's true the weapons they pick are the ones they think look cool. It was very obvious on the William Wallace vs. Shaka Zulu the guy had no idea how the ball and chain worked. Sorry guys I can't stop watching it though, it is the only show both my kids will sit and watch together. They are totally opposite in everything else but they always have to see who wins. They are also 12 and 10.

Hmm, Vikings also had pattern welded swords from 700-1066 AD. The Japanese swords hit their stride in the Keicho Era, which started in 1596. Japanese swords prior to this were made with sand iron instead of better quality iron ore.

The show is a simple pissing match and the guy with the weak prostate gets made fun of. My biggest problem with it is that they don't test competing weapons against the same things all the time. I mean hell the Spetz Vs. the Beret was a joke because it probably would have been a little more favorable to the Beret if their test operator would have been a little more accurate and a little less hasty. It is neat if you watch it for entertainment purposes, but don't expect a realistic history lesson. Max Gieger = guy who played with himself a little to much while playing Warcraft. " OH YEAH, YOU ELF WHORE TAKE IT OFF"
