Spitfire or vantage

I am looking at both of these . Eventually I am sure i will have both. But for now if like some opinions on which one to pick. I'll use it to open boxes packages that sort of task. And maybe occasionally to clean a trout or 2

I like them both but the Vantage would be my choice mainly due to the fact it's a flipper. I also find its liner lock easier to close one handed.

They are both good knives, it's really a matter of preference. I, for one, am waiting for the 112 light weight with the clip and thumb stud. That could be another option for you to consider.

For cleaning trout and cutting boxes, I'd pick the Vantage for a thinner tip and higher grind.

I spend a lot of time with leather gloves on and find liner locks cumbersome, but... Don't care for the flat handle and modern look of the spitfire. For heavy work, I carry a 285 or 286, in orange, so I can find them when they work their way loose.

I know that was a big help.

Between the Vantage and the spitfire I choose the Spitfire.I have tried both for every day use.I will be getting a 112 slim to try out but for the last 2 years its been the spitfire for daily use.Just my 2 cents.

Handled a spitfire a number of times, never carried it. An orange spit was my youngest son's first Buck purchase. Nice knife for the price but the Vantage is a couple steps up, IMO.
I purchased a Vantage Pro serrated because I needed to break down triple wall boxes and the serrations make that job easy. Just opening boxes I think straight blade would be correct.
I also have a small Vantage Pro that I carry on "easyer" days.
Go with the large Vantage.

The Vantage gets alot of praise and has a pretty big following but honestly it's one BUCK that I was never fond of. I've owned several and tried to carry them multiple times. I'm just not a fan. I still have one but it's mostly because I like Buck Knives in general and it's part of the collection.

I like the looks of the Spitfire but haven't owned one yet.

Also check out the Bantam line. The 285 is a lot of knife for the money. They will developed blade play after a couple years of hard use but for the price who cares and made in the USA

bantam is a good choice. I use a 286 often for dirty messy chores. easy to clean and a super value folder made in usa.

I like the vantage but find the large a bit small for many tasks. prefer it to have an xl version in at least 3.5" or 3.75, 4 inch blade. I also liked the screwed together versions better with full scales instead of the plastic frame and insert setup on the newer ones. also liked the sandvik steel options when they were around.

own a bunch of spitfires, they are okay but I dont find them better than the bantam 2xxs or bucklite 4xxs when they were around.
