So, plenty of background over here on this thread:

https://bladeforums.com/threads/ste...off-the-grid-lost-his-phone-whats-up.1509873/

I wanted to get a new thread going, since the OP of the old thread took it upon himself to attempt to protect this scumbag thief maker for some reason. I guess he wanted it to peter out. Ah well. It's clear to me that Steve Ketchen has stolen money and knives from several customers (who posted up in the above thread). By shutting down threads, this is how scumbags get to skate by lying low and waiting for the noise to die down so they can sneak back in to start trying to defraud Bladeforums members again and whelp, I'm not down with that. We've seen it before with guys like Will Moon.

So, if you've had money, knives or both stolen by Steve Ketchen @spketch please feel free to post up here. I won't be closing this thread in order to protect a guilty maker (and I won't hit on a guy pretending to be his own wife either LOL).

To make sure Google can find this when someone searches for his name, allow me to be the first in this thread to state that it is my understanding that Steve Ketchen of Sketchen Scales Customs is a scumbag thief who has stolen money and knives from clients, and to this day has still not made several people whole. In fact, those who DID get their money back, only managed to do so by getting law enforcement local to Steve involved. That should tell you something. DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THIS SCUMBAG.

@PeteyTwoPointOne Since you seem to have insider info about this, why not share it right here with the community instead of asking people to PM you. The community deserves to know about the different facets of this situation.

+1

I am trying really hard to give PeteyTwoPointOne the benefit of the doubt here. IMHO, closing the longstanding thread and telling folks to PM him for more info is wrong on a number of levels and serves to make the situation more confusing.

I never really shared my experience with Steve publicly before because he was such a well respected member at the time and I didn’t feel like taking shit from the nuthuggers at the time, as my negative experience happened well before his public downfall.
I decided to commission a custom scale from Steve for my new spyderco southard after seeing numerous examples of his work and reading many positive reviews. I asked Steve to make a blue snakeskin Juma scale, something he’d never done before but was willing to try. Steve originally quoted me one price to be paid up front and a timeframe of 6-8. I paid what Steve asked and waited 4ish months before contacting him inquiring about my scale. Steve responds by claiming it’s almost done and asks for more money because of the “uniqueness” and difficulty in making this scale, I pay. After another 2ish months I finally receive my scale which was unevenly colored but it still looks decent, the pivot tab on the lock side was a different color and not tapped/bored properly which lead to it cracking when trying to tighten pivot, and the show side scale didn’t even fit properly. I don’t know if it wasn’t cured or whatever but it’s warped and doesn’t sit flush, leaving a huge gap between the liner, between this and the pivot collar, the knife won’t flip open properly. I sent a message to Steve which went unanswered. I chalked it up as a loss; with my trust utterly broken I have never done business of bf again.

Edited: I dug scale out to install and show gap

Wow, that scale looks like a hunk of cheap plastic that was left on the dashboard of a car in the hot sunshine to warp. I hope you don’t mean not trusting everybody on BF, the vast majority of us go well above and beyond the level of another’s expectations. I certainly understand being guarded after your experience, but please don’t write 100% of the rest of us on BF off.

That is awful.

It certainly isn't representing the standards of BF.
I hope you will consider trying another craftsman here, because your experience is not the norm.

So let me get this right. You paid up front, waited about 4 months and heard nothing. You then had to ask the guy what's up. He then said I need more money to finish what you already paid for and he drug he ass for 4 months to complete. You paid that and he then drug his ass for yet another 2 months the send you a set of scales his kid made for a school project and got a D- on at that.

Dont let that douche bag ruin your abilities to have some of the best work done. BF has some super talented members. Give it another chance but ask around a bit.

Yes. Like I said, this was before his downfall and he was a very well respected member with lots of positive feedback and examples of his work. Also this was my first and only time commissioning a custom scale, it totally ruined it for me.

Please keep the posts on the topic in the title.
Ix-Nay on challenging other members.

Steve is a true scumbag. I sent him a Native 5 and a Stretch 2 G10 for custom scales at the start of his downfall before we all know what we know now. I never saw the money I paid or those knives ever again. Multiple emails, texts, and phone calls went unanswered.
