Split Backspring Whittlers (let's see 'em)

jnevill;9049673"Queen made Case"? Seriously? I didn't know Queen ever made knives for Case! [/QUOTE said:
Queen made the Case Classics line for them. Mid Eighties?

That queen whittler is calling my name. I really like the whittler blade layout over the stockmans. Awsome pics

This old Schrade Cut. Co. is from a salesman's roll, unsharpened.
A hair under 4", and very slim.

Here's an abalone handled example made by Stan Shaw about fifteen years ago.

Thanks for the kind comment, Mick!
Particularly nice one by Mr. Shaw! An unusual flair to that one. Did he engrave the bolsters also??

Delighted you like Stan's whittler Charlie, its bolsters were engraved by Peter DeVine, I think ? not sure though.

The engraving fits nicely with that one, Mick. Right proportions, if you know what I mean.
Here are some Case whittlers, in the three most common sizes in the 1950s to 1970s.

I've added a view of some backsprings.

I only have four whittlers, two Remington R-14s, the Rough Rider Congress whittler and a huge Bulldog whittler, but it is not a split back. I have enjoyed the knives showing up in this thread.

I'm with Matt1987 as I have decided I like the whittler pattern better than the stockman pattern. I believe the mini copperhead, though not a whittler per se, and the Remingtons have led me to that realization. The high sheepsfoot in the stockman pattern just doesn't feel as nice to me as the whittlers I have.

That stag Bulldog whittler is 5-3/16" closed. A veritable short sword with the main blade open. IIRC, it was a salesman's demo or sold to me as such. I bought it because it looked nice.

My only split back is a S&M but I do have and much like my three back spring red bone Case!

By the way guys as to all those others posted; wow!!

These 2 Ulsters may not be considered "True" whittlers by virtue of the manicure/file blade. I consider them part of my whittler collection. The pearl bears the initials "EP" on the shield. the other is older with Ivory handles. Barry
