Hello Everyone, I talked with Rusty earlier
about one of my KuKS Horn Handle is split
from one end to the other, Rusty suggested
using Super Glue, Is there any other suggestions out there ?
#2 Problem is a new 20" chinpuri Sheath is way to tight to use. I had some good advise
from Terry, wet it slid in knife and let it
dry this worked great to start with, now it
is locked in the sheath after hanging up for
ten days or so, it is all one can do to get
it to come out, then it will not go back in.
Help me brothers of the Blade ?

For your handle I would use epoxy with a clamp. For your sheath I would try lanolin lotion. I think the problem here is the leather is not fully tanned. What I use is Kneet's foot oil (can sometimes find it at Kmart) It's hard to find but works really good. When you wet it down you allow the leather to expand but when it dries its going to lose more moisture than you started with; hence it gets tighter. I also use Sno seal to waterproof and seal in the oil. You will need about 4 or 5 applications to start with after the Kneet's. The lanolin (lotion) will soften it up and let it expand and you can get it just about anywhere. Use a lot to start with and then try to find some Kneet's, a bottle will last you for years.
Good luck,

Thank You Syad, for the information. the
sheath is my big concern, and the handle
is a problem as one side is out of line
with the other. I hope it will pull back
in with clamps , if not I will make a new
one from Walnut. Thanks Again Jerry

I think you misunderstood me. I said to soak the sheath and put wood wedges in the sheath to stretch it out a bit. If you put a khukuri in a wet sheath it will rust.
You usually have to take the sheath apart and work it down if it is really tight.

My 22" Ang Khola with a wood handle spit from bolster the butt cap. I used an 1 hour epoxy (Home Hardwware brand)to bond it back together. First I mixed the epoxy then injected the epoxy into the crack with a syringe. C-clamps were used to compress the crack close. The epoxy is suppose to take 3 days to fully cure, I gave it a full week. It has been a couple years and the handle has not given me any trouble since. The knife has been used for chopping and spitting. The trick is to get the handle tightly closed so that the epoxy only has to span only a very small distance.

Since then Uncle Bill has suggested using hose clamps close the crack. This works extremely much better than the C clamps. Just make sure you don't epoxy the clamp to the handle. When I used hose clamps on a handle I covered the clamp with wax before it came in contact with the epoxy.

Just don't expect the epoxy to stick to the brass bolster or butt cap very well. The oxide layer tends to come off causing the epoxy break free.

Propery applied epoxy is stronger than wood or horn. Improperly used or applied it is brittle and can chip off. When I have left over epoxy from a job I often put it on the butt cap or between the natural materal and brass bolster. Usually this stuff just chips off due to vibration when the knife is used. Properly done this would not happen. For one repair job I made a new bolster section entirely of epoxy and so far it is holding up.

Good luck.

Will

Thanks Guys , I did that Terry but with what
I just learned talking with Uncle, I didn't
soak it long enough, and I didn't let it dry
enough. I will try the handle next.
Again Thanks Guys for the Help.
