Splitting axe suggestion(s)???

Picked up a Fiskars X25 tonight at WalMart for $25. . .

. . .would have preferred an X27 with the longer length, but I couldn't resist at $25. . .I should be trying it out tomorrow afternoon.

Has anyone actually tried one of those cantilevered contraptions???

Funny you should ask, I just received one in the mail this morning. One of the springs is broken and it needs a new handle but I'm hoping to get it back to fighting form soon.

Cool. Let us know. Looks like that site I posted has springs. I just realized that I should remove the link though...

Steve you have to be younger than in your sixties. I was able to remember things at one time, but not any more. Glad you can serve as our corporate memory. Thanks.

Thanks for the link!

Tested out the Fiskars X25 today. . .split a full cord of wood with it and I'll I've got to saw is WOW!!!

The short handle took some getting used to (I would probably prefer the X27), but after I made the adjustment it was like cheating!!!

No effort to split wood whatsoever. . .never got stuck a single time and most of the wood could be split single handed. . .the axe did 90% of the work for me.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions!!!

The Fireside Friend is the only serious splitter they make (other than their splitting wedge) and I'd consider it a camping or kindling tool only. It's a fantastic tool, but I wouldn't want to split a cord with it--that's just not what it's designed for. Just my opinion, though. :)

I know this is an old conversation, but maybe someone will help me answer
I've built a lot of things over the years besides a fire whilst in the bush. Fences, shelters, windbreaks, crude washstands, and once helped build a small dock. I've used a bunch of different axes and within my collection are a few I really like.
Also, guys, do you know good Canadian casinos with slots games? Anyone tried this one - casinosranker.com, It has been recommended to me by all my friends and acquaintances, I would like to hear your opinion.
