Hows everybody doing? I need to purchase a new splitting axe. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks

Lowes and Home Depot would be a good place to start. If you are in Canada, check out Canadian Tire.

For splitting you don't really need anything special. Might want to regrind the edges on some of the cheaper axes though. ;)

Fiskars is a good brand.

you might want to try Sears if you have one near by they have a good guarantee on tools .(100%) splitting can be tough on an axe

Are you looking for something that's relatively easy to carry, or do you want something for car camping or for use in the back yard? For easy carry, Fiskars makes a version of their hatchet with flared cheeks to make it better for splitting. I think it also has a slightly longer handle than the one that is so popular with so many folks here, including myself.

Estwing!

$40.00 - $50.00

Last few years I've had more hand/joint pain from using plastic handled axes like the Fiskars, rather than a wood handled one. The Fiskars splits well, but the vibration is high.

This is the next one I try - another Bruk. handled it at Lee Valley and it feels great:

The Estwing is not a splitting axe, it's just a light axe. They do make a great splitting hatchet [Fireside friend ??],14" which I use daily through the winter. For serious splitting , full size, try a monster maul .The angle of the wedge defines whether it's a chopper or splitter.

I am with brians. I have both of those and the Bruk is the ost sturdy and its a beast of a splitter and very good quality.
