All I can say for those who are thinking that the level of skill means you can leave the shoes off is that I am glad I am not the Safety Manager wherever it is you work. Those are the kind of workers who complain about gov't safety regulations then they go getting hurt after leaving their PPE's back in the rack. What habits you follow at home and in your off time are about the same ones you bring to work.
What's obvious is that most of you would rather watch Ellie Mae with her axe skills but if it was her cousin Jethro you would be all over him for being dangerous and he would not hold your attention very long....true that?

I just can't believe someone could take this so seriously as to think that deeply on the subject. Do others' safety habits really matter that much to you? If someone wants to chop wood w/o shoes or weld w/o gloves & a mask, or use a nail gun blind folded, I sure won't lose any sleep over it or even care enough think about it for more than a few seconds. Unless it puts me in harm's way, people can be as stupid or crazy as they want to. And her cousin Jethro probably has horrible looking feet that no one should have to see;)

It's clear to me that this kid has learned a strong work ethic that will lead to a good future whatever she wants to do. I imagine her family does a good job of giving their kid or kids real roles and jobs to be responsible for. That is impressive in these days when many kids are given so much and little is expected of them.

No need to make any more of the safety issue, I get everyone's point and there's things we don't agree on in terms of wood chopping foot wear. I like the steel plate knight boots but there so dang expensive plus they are hot in the summer and cold in the winter.

Farm kids work hard and have to learn to watch out for real risks just like city kids have to learn to cross a street and not hang out with gangs. Risks are everywhere, can't sit in a recliner all day and have a life. The positive message of a young lady working harder than most her age ever will is and was not something I wanted to cheap shot. To few like that if you are ever having to hire college age workers to do any sort of labor.

awesome upper body :) The way she moves with that axe , I could watch it all day

I havent ever seen wood with grain so straight before , Im more used to the twisty knotty hardwoods here .

thats how i was taught. twist after impact. just a quick flick on the bounce. it does take time to master that. i have not mastered it. i think i could fall in love with that girl haha

what the crap. She does a barefoot video, not one dislike. I don't wear "safety glasses, and get like 100 dislikes". Youtube humans and their thumbs...

YOU dont have her upper body build , thats all ,well that and being female with it ...

it has lot to do with it

And still foolish. More than axes fly when splitting. But of course what did Peter McLaren's know? He was probably afraid of axes.

hands up time

who puts on their safety specs , steel toe boots , shin guards , etc to go split some firewood ?

Im asking cos I mess with knives , but I dont wear near any of the protective chain mail I see some of the local abitior workers wearing . I use an axe , but I wear no special gear to use it .. none of the people I deliver wood to in my town do either that I know of ,and I do talk to them about the wood, how easy or not it splits , what axes and splitters are best etc ... part of the job kinda .

so how many people don armor to split wood , or even use their knives here ? I cannot put ahand up for either.. Im genuineley curious to see who doe stake their safety this far tho .

First off I thought this is how every country boy (or girl split wood ) As far as barefoot if you hit your foot your doing it wrong :D As far as axe/maul vs. a splitter back before I got old and fat My Buddy Mike and I have kept up with or even out did two guys running the splitter more than once on good hardwood filling a 3/4 ton pick up
An average lookig lady that can use an axe read a tape and isn't afraid of getting her hands dirty is hotter to me than any prima donna beuaty queen
