Reading through an older thread that popped up about grail knives one member mentioned that they don't exist but that we find knives that spoil us from the rest of our collections and really make you just stop and think about the rest.

Mine has come in stages. My first spoiler was the Benchmade Bugout. It had a fairly slicy blade, slim profile, fun action and you could really make it your own. When I got this knife I didn't carry any other and thought it was my end knife. I just couldn't justify any knife being substantially better. Then the springs broke and I no longer trusted the knife. Which led me to eventually getting my Maxemet Para 3.

The blade isn't as long or slicy as the Bugout but I love the steel, the feel in hand, the solid feel and the fidget factor. Plus after a new edge on it, it would be difficult to tell the difference in how they cut. This knife has been through a good amount of stuff and held up beautifully.

But as knife nuts do I went searching for a nice titanium knife to complement it and found the Kizer T1.

This knife really just blew me away. Sturdy, slicy, great action and I think a good looking knife. Between this and my Para 3 it has me considering selling the rest of the collection and just seeing how long these 2 can carry me.

So in short what knives or knife has made you question your collection or any future purchases.

game changer
If I wasn’t a knife snob before, I am now, and I have credentials.
Not for everyone but works for me.
Interestingly it didn’t change how I feel about my other blades but it did change how I think about my next acquisition.

I’m the anomaly. I wanted a Buck 110 since I was in diapers. Got one when I turned 13. Occasionally I tried to find something better, but always end up back with a 110 on my belt.

My grail knife when I was a little kid is still my favorite edc.

That's great! I hope to get to a point like that one day. Do you have one you have carried the longest?

The two in the middle got carried daily for 30 plus years. Mostly the finger groove was on my work pants the standard was on my blue jeans. The third one was bought to carry while the first two went back to Buck for new blades. One of the three went to work with me everyday I ever worked.

View attachment 1494236 This was taken the day they came back. The finger groove one is the one I still carry to work everyday.

That's amazing! Thanks for sharing!

Large CRKs. I’ve been loyal and faithful for years now :D

In all seriousness when I first got my first CRK I wasn’t necessarily blew away. It was plain, simple and slow (they still are). At first I wouldn’t use them. I’d come home and play around with them and put them back in the box, pretty dumb to me now but it’s what I did. Finally I couldn’t stand it any longer and started taking them to work. I still rotated other knives and may or may not have still bought other knives. Time went on and I sold off most of my others. I’ve had a lefty CRK in my pocket everyday for many years and haven’t looked back in a long time

If we are talking productions...I’m gonna have to agree with Mr. Davis Dcdavis Dcdavis on this one. CRK’s at work, are the production knife wrecker for me. I just stopped buying other production knives...

However...

I did end up picking up an iMamba from the boys at Arno Bernard...and hot darn...it feels like a CRK. I really like that there is no thumbstud to keep the whole cutting edge clean...I really hope this isn’t another game changer...cause I have too many CRKs. ;)

Cool topic.

Yes your photos in the edc thread has put CRKs into my mind more than I thought. It's cool seeing how much use they get.

I saw the knife you posted in the edc thread. It's pretty cool also. Ingesting materials they use on those.

And thank you. I thought the thread would have more action than it has. Oh well.

Don’t give in to self pity, OP, but neither give up hope. It is a good topic. It is also metaphysical, and will not attract everyone. Just sayin’

The spoiler knife for me? Benchmade 710. I had never seen a knife like that before. I had a Buck 110 and thought it was the ultimate.

I have dozens of super folding knives now, but even the souped-up 710 that Benchmade did a few years ago, in limited numbers, was not as good in hand as the old 710. (I have both.) Will they re-release it? Ha!

Buck has it right. 110. It works. So, do we keep making it? Yep.

No worries. I don't take things too seriously.

That's a cool knife and one I haven't seen many of. Do you use this knife still?

CRKs are built to be used. Excellent working knives. I put them through the ringer. I don’t abuse them but I don’t cut them any slack. Sometimes things just happen tho.

TOPS Lil' Roughneck. I wanted an everyday fixed blade that was nearly unbreakable. When I found out that I could get this little monster for well under the cost of a Busse Warden, I gave TOPS my money.

You could say it "spoiled" me for wanting any more super-thick knives. I still like it because it's dumb, but now my idea of "big" is 0.187, not 0.375....
