A lot of sites were listed recently where paracord could be purchased. I purchased from the Sportsman's Guide and Ubraidit and both were very helpful and delivered quickly.

Try this because I discovered it a while back.

True 550 Para Cord is supposed to be made up of seven independent strands of independent Nylon strings that not only provide strength, but can also be extracted to be used for fishing line, traps (notice I didn't say snares), trip wire, etc.

The last roll of 550 I bought was not like that. It had one large twist of very thin nylon yarn inside the outer sleeve. That was disappointing.

Probably more than you ever wanted to know about 550, but I just thought I would point it out for the detail people here. It seems not all 550 mfg.'s are created equal?

There is a lot of stuff marketed as "parachute cord" or "parachute-style cord" that is far from milspec -- some of it even has a twisted cotton core, or a core of miscelaneous recycled fibers. Even that's okay for some (non-loadbearing) applications, but if you need strength make sure you're buying the real thing.

The cord from Ubraidit has 400 and some pounds of strength rather than the milspec 550 but this is stated on their website. I haven't looked inside it yet, but I ordered the colored stuff and don't care about the inner strands (or possible lack thereof).

The cord from Sportsman's guide is black milspec and does contain 7 inner strands.
