I've been thinking of picking one of these up since I read a short article about them in Tactical Knives magazine a couple of months ago. I was wondering if anybody could direct me towards any reviews or give me their opinions before I purchased one. I'm most interested in the micarta versions. How do they hold up, are they comfortable to carry as a neck knife, can you mount a TekLok to the sheath, etc. Thanks for the help. God bless you and America.

The knife, as I said before seemed to have to small a blade. I handled a SE version so perhaps a PE would perform differently.

As far as I know the knife can be mounted with a small Tek-Lok. If you find otherwise spend a few extra bucks and send it to a Kydex Bender.

Best of luck.

The Spot is a very comfortable neck knife. The VG10 steel does not like sweat, mine started to pitt when I failed to oil and wipe it down after jogging afew times. The AUS8 steel holds up better in hot weather. The blade is small, so I prefer SE. I consider the Spot a SD back up, SE offers an advantage. Tek-Loks are to bulky, either carry it in your pocket or or thread a leather boot lace through one of the holes on the sheath, loop it over your belt, and carry inside your waist band. I have three Spots and really liked them until I DISCOVERED THE SWICK................

I agree that the Swick is a better overall knife than the Spot. I traded my Spot away without using it, After I got a Swick, I bought 2 more as spares!

To bad the Swick was discontinued. I have three and plan to add another. The S30V steel is easy to keep very sharp. I EDC two Swicks and two Dodos very comfortably. I would to see a 3 inch Swick for IWB, maybe Street Beat size. The forward hole is perfect for blade retention in high stress situations.

I like the spot a lot and edc it. Pocket carry works pretty good, I just pop off the sheath with my thumb. The swick looks pretty good too. Go with whichever blade shape you like, since the handle designs are pretty much the same.

The Spot is like a fixed bladed Cricket with a full handle. It is flat so works great in pocket, belt, IWB, or neck carry. Being so thin it doesn't print that much (body shape and clothing must be considered for printing). It comes with a ball chain the works pretty well.

I too have used a Spot during jogging, (the AUS steel version) which hasn't taken muck care to prevent rust.

Had both the SE SPOT and the Swick. As usual, great ergo-design from Spyderco. Now only the Swick remains.

- Longer and more usable blade length, for both SD and UTILITY (used it to carve on wood)
- S30V on the Swick really holds its edge
- Ease of sharpening

In fairness to the SPOT though, it's edges on the handle weren't polished or trimmed-down which added to grip of the hand and the protrusions/nibs on the blade added to it's security in the kydex sheath. Wish they put that in the Swick as well.

Well, I really like my SPOT, but I don't think it is very good for EDC. For me it's more a good excuse to carry another knife;) I think the blade is just to short for EDC things. Try to peel fruit with it, or slice your sandwich. It's a bit short for that kind of things.
Then again, I really like the ergo's (used some paracord on the AUS 8 version), the big fingerhole, the sheat and the neckcord. And the serrations work really well on cardboard.

Paracord wrapping could help beef up the handle if its to small for your hand.
It's ergos would be better if it was little bigger.

I have two plain edge Spots, one black version in AUS-6 and a s/steel VG-10 version with micarta handle. The micarta handles do offer a better grip. The blade length is a bit small for SD, but I usually carried mine as a back-up to a bigger blade. I still like them and carry them. Btw, the VG-10 is also the better steel and you'll feel it when cutting.
