Spotting from storage in pouch?

Going to have to refinish this one. Customer has had it about six months, never used and only been stored in a wool lined zippered pouch. It was waxed with Renascence wax before shipping. Steel is 52100, if that helps. Only thing I can think of is condensation from rapid temp changes. Either that or there is something in the wool lining of the pouch that caused this.23899417_10203892711155283_132194214_n.jpg

Where's the customer? Wouldn't surprise me in Louisiana or similar humid climate. It's easy to get condensation from ac house to safe or outside.

He's in OH, I'm in south MS. I'm thinking there may have been some residue in the pouch, but this is the first time I've had this issue. After I clean it up I'll give the pouch a wash cycle and probably use Johnson's paste wax to seal it this time.

i just found a knife with the same condition. i forgot to coat it with mineral oil before storing :( many new fabrics have mold inhibitor on them, ( like the smell of a new shirt) that might be doing it.

I checked the rest of my knives and no issues. It was shipped out with a good coating of Renaissance wax, but it's possible the customer wiped it off and then stored it without any oil or wax.

I'm also wondering if it may be the dreaded "spit pits"? What's bugging me is it sat in the pouch here for a couple weeks while I was waiting on supplies to finish the sheath.
