Still drab brown out in my neighborhood. The crocus's and iris's are just poking their fleshy leaves out through the soil now.
The forest is still drab brown unfortunately. No signs of trout lilies or trilliums yet. Just brown leaves and dead sticks. Spring peepers are chirping away like mad around the wet parts.
The only green that could be found in the forest proper is moss
Oh and the mircata on my new CKE2 bushcrafter
On the way back, I found signs of urban carnage. Probably a cat managed to sneak up and catch a pigeon. Looks like the bird just exploded!
No signs of a body!
Last week, the wife and I went out for a walk and we collected a stave to make her walking stick. Her was here pic from back then. Along with the stave she is modeling a bag of dog poop.
After bringing it back, I de-barked it and whittled it to what I wanted it and let it dry out for a week. It actually lost a remarkable amount of weight during the drying period. Yesterday I put some varnish on it and added the trimmings, a bit of paracord for a hand hold. I also found a Chinese casino slots coin which fit the bottom perfectly and epoxied it on there. My wife likes it!
Okay, its not a masterpiece like some of the sticks shown out here, but it is very comfy, was fun to do, and it will get some practical use. I pulled another stave from the bush today as I came back and might make myself one up. I think I'll try to sink a button compass in the handle of mine.
