Spring Assisted Rat 1 is here!! Anybody else excited?

Not really much to say. It doesnt take a genius to tell that these things'll sell like crazy. However, the real question is how they'll compete with the similar kershaw Blur.

-Edit: Also, the assisted model seems to have G10 rather than FRN handle material.

My un assisted rat opens just as fast as an assisted knife... it will be interesting to see if it makes a difference.

In my opinion the opening speed wont make a difference. My reason for buying one would be the G10.

To be honest, not really.

No. However it is indeed better built than a few so called "American made" knives. *cough* Emerson

And I speak from personal experience.

The big question is, how easily can it be DE-Assisted? And if so, does it have a detent?

Would like G-10 scales on my RAT-1, but not enough to buy the same knife with "tactical assisted opening" technology. Plus I prefer the absolute simplicity of the RAT I got.

I've found that I like assisted opening in knives the size of the Leek or smaller, but prefer larger knives to be un-assisted. Regardless, the Blur is still one of my favorite knives, so it's not a deal breaker. There is such a variety of quality knives made today, it's practically impossible to not find exactly what you need or want.

If the AO RAT is a good bit slimmer with the G-10 scales, then I may give one a try. I'll be interested to hear the opinions of the early buyers of this knife. I hope it's as good if not better than its predecessor.

Paying double the price for an assisted opening version of the already perfect RAT 1 is just silly to me, but to each their own.

I didn't notice the G-10 that would make a difference to me, but I think a regular one in G-10 would be better, I just cant get over the safety.

Esee used to be RAT. I believe Esee came into existence after they parted ways from Ontario. Ontario kept the RAT name for their line of knives and Esee moved on to do what they do.
