Spring Edibles..Found any yet?

Ive been finding morels. Ate a couple of skillet fulls and have a couple more in the fridge. They are delicious. Dip in egg and cracker meal .

i have been nibbeling on chick weed and hen bit, found a bunch of field cress and nettels. haven't found and morels yet but i haven't looked around for them very much spring came early this year not sure if there will be many out it's been really dry

Picked a bunch of ramps on Easter Sunday. Still small. We need rain to get them going. I found a health food store that will buy all the ramps I can bring in at 4$ a lb. Gonna let them get a little bigger and then harvest them hard. Loads of them around here. The garlic mustard is really taking off despite no rain.--KV

I am working at a place with woods nearby and am not seeing any in my normal spots. What is your location related to the Metro N or S ? I was out today for 15 minutes and nothing.

Just gettin warm enough the last couple of days. This weekend should be good. I'm east of the metro, nuttin yet either.

Thems in the metro boys- west side... look for sun and higher elevations. None of my go to spots are hitting just yet but they're out there.

Wow! That sounds liek a real Morrel glut you've stumbled upon there!!

I think i need to get out and see what fun(ghi) can be had soon . Although, its probably waaaaaay too wet right now.

Past couple of weeks I have been on the Ramps (Ramson/Wild Garlic) hunt and making a fair few jars of wild garlic pesto for the larder.

I've also noticed an alternative wild edible I've never really experimented with, Jack-by-the-hedge (Garlic mustard/Alliaria petiolata). Do you guys have it over your side of the pond?

Its much less pungent than even the youngest of Ramson leaves. But still enough flavour I think to preserve as a pesto. (Heck, I gotta do something with all these Pine Nuts I bought!).

Ecological Threat:
■Garlic mustard spreads into high quality woodlands upland and floodplain forests, not just into disturbed areas.
■Invaded sites undergo a decline on native herbaceous cover within 10 years.
■Garlic mustard alters habitat suitability for native insects and thereby birds and mammals.
■This European exotic occurs now in 27 midwestern and northeastern states and in Canada.
■Garlic mustard is a MDA Prohibited noxious weed (Controlled List) in Minnesota.
