With the nice weather coming fast, I thought it might be fun to post our first planned outings of the warm season. Let us know where you are going, with how many people, for how long, and what you might be bringing.
I'm missing out in the annual camping trip with my friends so I've scheduled a second trip with one other person in early May instead. We're staying in the White mountains and I'm planning on packing much less than usual with only a day pack and my Maxpedition Proteus. I'll have the bare essentials and only my poncho for shelter with enough food for myself and my companion for one night. He'll be carrying a two-person tent, extra food and whatever emergency supplies and secondary gear that I can't carry. The idea is to see what we can get by on and what we could leave at home without the risk of having a miserable time. I'm hoping to only use a minimal amount of gear and supplies while staying comfortable without having to dip into any of the 'good' stuff. So where are you going?

The trout stream where I have fished since I was ( _ ) this high opens in about 1 1/2 hrs.. I might make it by mid-afternoon. Beyond that, I will go where life takes me. -DT

I am getting ready for a 5 day hike on the Appalacian Trail at the end of April.
We will start out at Pearisburg VA then hike North about 68 miles.

Taking the bare minimum, two things I don't skimp on is sleep gear and food.

spring hasnt sprung here. April though , I will be heading to the swollen streams to catch some suckers, carp... and pick some morels along the banks.

Last two weekends I have been goofing off in the Ocala National Forest. This coming week, I believe I'll go north, and have some fun camping in the Osceola National Forest.
The two places, while close together, are light years apart in appearance and experience.

Hopefully going back to Utah or Arizona in about 3 weeks. We're going to see about some part of the Grand Canyon. North Rim was closed last month, and the South Rim roads were iffy, plus we both wanted to stay longer at Zion National Park.
Two of us, probably a day of driving around, and 3 of hiking-maybe just dayhiking. Haven't checked on rooms anywhere, or if we'd need licenses to camp, yet.
Wasn't planned. I wanted us to go somewhere again next month(and hopefully beat the tourists and the heat), and she immediately popped out "Grand Canyon".
Tried to say "Well, I was thinking of...""GRAND CANYON!". Fine, we'll go to the Grand Canyon.
If that doesn't work out because of weather, or whatever reason, a return trip to Zion gets my vote. I want to live and die at that place.

Going to check out a couple of 6 mile trails at Cheaha here in AL, maybe Wednesday, knee permitting. Chinnabee Silent Trail, and Skyway Trail, or the Nubbin Creek trail.
Found these trail profiles, but they were linked from an article, so I don't know if they have other parks' trails profiled or not.
Looks like some good exercise at the end of that one! The article describes the last mile as "straight up":D

The Nubbin Creek trail is only two miles long, but my understanding is that you have to hike 4 miles on another trail to connect to it. Have to read up on it again.

Barring unexpected overtime opportunities, I'm planning to either find a trail or two to hike, or get the kayak in some water, or both, on my off days every week. Not just this spring, but indefinitely. Now that I've started doing this stuff regularly, I don't want to stop.
I need a LOT more vacation time:(

edit: Oh, if it's all going to be dayhiking, I'll just take my new Mountainsmith Day lumbar pack to carry our water and stuff around in.

We had a teaser of 70 degree weather last week, but now the temps are hanging in the high 30's maybe 40

Trout season doesn't open til the end of April:( which is just as well, cause all the rain we have had has flooded out most of the rivers around here making them almost in accessable. Oh and we are getting another 2-4" of rain tomorrow into Tuesday.. :thumbdn:

So I am heading to Sunny South Florida!!! :p

Spring already sprung here in MO!

My only day off in this 8 day streach and it's raining cats and dogs... Going to be nice later this week so I might sneek off work a bit early and go for a short walk in the woods but that is about it.

Owen, If you think you can make it to Central Utah on one of your trips, give me a shout! I know tons of places to go. Maple Canyon, Mude Hole up Spring City, Millers Flat, Hunting Reservoir..... The list goes on. Though Zion Nation Park is a great place! Hoping to make a trip down there in a few months. Thinking of doing some Camping out side Leeds. Used to live in Ceder City before I moved to Central Utah and love going camping and hiking there.

Some friends and I will be hiking into a campsite north east of Canyon Glen Park in Provo Canyon. The place is called Johnsons Hole and it's just off the Great Western Trail. The trail from the parking lot at Canyon Glen to the Grove of trees we plan to camp in is just under 1 mile.

I get cabin Fever in early February so I can't wait for this weekends trip. Hoping to do some hiking this week to start getting my legs into shape to carry a backpack again.

Trust me, there are few things I'd like more than to take you up on that. My girlfriend lives in Vegas right now, and we're both about out of vacation time, already. I'm going to have to take off without pay if we do a trip for a honeymoon, and that will probably be some jungle adventure thing she wants to do. We'd both love to go to Canyonlands and Arches, though, just from looking at pics and reading about them. We both LOVED Utah.

It didn't have a very provocative title, but I posted a thread with pics about my trip the first of this month that might whet your appetite for your next trip to Zion.

scuba diving, mountain biking, hiking,(even though hiking is 4 seasonal) camping, ect. something every weekend.

It's autumn down here in Argentina, we're finally leaving the horrible summer behind (very high temperature combined with storms and floods, I hate that season). I'm getting out of the city and headed to my lovely mountain home in western Córdoba.

Crystal clear rivers, beautiful forests and sierras. I'm going to hop on one of my horses and dissapear for a few days. It will be a great chance to try out some new toys, and a fantastic excuse to go shopping for gear I don't really need tomorrow.

Hiked the Berkshires last week and the Hudson river today. Big difference, it was 70 degrees F last weekend and I woke up to 15 F yesterday AM. It was still great to get out though...
