Who knows where you can order spring steel in flat stock? Looking for some thing like 1/8 x 1 1/4 x how ever long. want to make a couple folders. I made one to play with and used i think 304 ss that i had but it dose not have the retention i would like.

1095 is classic spring steel. Most supply houses have it. It will have to be heat treated.

Any simple carbon steel ( predominantly iron and carbon) from 1070 to 1095 is a "spring Steel'. 1095 is the better of those. 5160 and 9260 are also called spring steels. These also make good knives.

I hope you know that 304 won't make a knife blade.....it is austenitic stainless, not martensitic.

thanks for the repl. I didnt realy think of using 1095 or outhers i have that so it works out for me that way. ya i know 304 wount harden i use it for handles. but used it as a spring to try and make folder out of a bad blade.
