I have same new band saw blades. I e-mailed the manufacture and they said that the blades were made of spring steel. Can anyone tell me how to temper spring steel

There are many different types of spring steel. For the most part, any high carbon steel can be used as a spring. You need more info.

Spring steel is not a type of steel, it is a class of steel. There are dozens of possibilities, all different. They include alloy steels and high carbon steels. Mostly the ability to take a spring temper is what determines if it can be called a "spring steel".

I just added the "spring steel" thing to my list of additions to my project.

I am in the process of revamping my webpage, there I have decided to include pages that answer the most common questions asked when discussing blade making. One of the most common things that cause drop in forum participation is burnout from answering the same questions again and again, this is not the fault of the asker, they may not be aware that there was a two pager just 1 month ago. I know the standard advice is to use the search function, but to be honest I rarely use it myself. It is human nature to want your own question answered addressing your specific needs instead of extrapolating how you can use what a guy was told three months ago.

In the meantime- spring steel is any steel that you want to make into a spring, although you would be wise to be certain it has good fatigue strength before labeling it that;)
