I'm having some difficulty finding hardening and tempering info on titanium. I'd like to make a frame lock (which I've never done before) but I'm not sure if titanium can be properly tempered by me. I have a 2000° oven , a 1000° oven and an acetylene torch available to me thru my job. I like doing everything myself and wouldn't send it out to be heat treated. Oh, it's 6al4v by the way. Thanks.

huh, thats convenient then. one more question, if its already spring tempered how do you bend it and have it remain in the position you bent it to? wouldnt it naturally spring back? do you apply heat to the area to be bent? thanks.

You are sure right in that it can be very conveient to use. It will spring back some but you then adjust for that. The thing is once it's much more than around .065 thick it doesn't bend very well you will have to cut a ROUNDED relief notch in the liner of youir frame lock in the titanium is thicker than that and most frame locks are. Use the search and read about frame locks people here have made. You can't possibly start without an awful lot more background. Frank

ok, i think im good. thanks frank. yeah i kinda figured out the purpose of the relief on the frame locks ive seen. thanks again. leif.
