yeek!
best of luck to them - sounds like they're recoverable, and they only lost a week of research.

Proooobably recoverable.
Of course they weight about 10,000lb in air - together. And something has to haul them up. At least Herc is slightly positively buoyant. I suspect this will set them back more than a week. But it all remains to be seen. If everything goes well, 1 week. Or could be season-ending.

ETA: I've just got unofficial confirmation that the Tommy-G w/ JASON (WHOI's similar ROV) and another pilot friend are almost certainly going after them as soon as they get the OK from NSF. Deep Sea Drama!

After a successful test ride I swapped the saddle with the one from my old bike. Doesn't look as sweet (not all black), but will ride better. It's nearly done. There was a concerning rattle over bumps in the back end which turned out to be the reflector in the spokes being a little loose. 😆 There's a chatter in the front when braking that has to be addressed. Then maybe new tires and that's about it:

I'm in no shape for exercise. 😁
My brother in law recently finished a full triathlon, impressive enough for me, but he also did it without half of his right leg.

Badass.

There was famously a one-legged bike messenger in NYC. (this story is wonderful, but unverified)
He used modern clipless pedals - not sure if he rode a single-speed or fixed-gear. He'd just unclip in a timely fashion. And because he didn't need it, he removed the opposite side crank from the bottom bracket, ensuring that nobody else could/would ride or steal his bike.

They recovered the ROVs today!!
Some great planning and operating by some serious underwater operators.
Except for the part when they tried to cut spectra lift line with a paring knife taped to a stick.

that was fun :)

Spent another weekend at Gettysburg Battlefield. 158 years later and you can still feel the energy.

It's been a few years since I've been there but I was pretty awed by the scope. You don't appreciate how big of a battlefield it was and all of its various moving parts involved from the history books. It was a very sobering visit.

Nice! I see you also picked up a Carothers in that line up. Also, I see a daizee blade there. Not familiar with the one on the right.
