I know that Sal has said in the past that the full sized Calypso in in FRN would take away from Endura sales, but I think that a sprint run of 500 would not be harmful. If spyderco did make a sprint run of full size (4" blade) Calypsos, I would get two. What do you guys think?

Considering that I already have 2 "Work" Endura's and 2 NIB Spares....and that I *would* buy a full size Calypso.....I don't think it would hurt Endura sales.

Assuming it would be PE and retain the Calypso's trademark full flat grind, I'd be good for one, and probably for two. Much as I'd love to see it, the problem would be that AFIK there is no suitable FRN handle. If what I've been lead to believe is true, that would be pretty much of a "stopper", since an FRN mold costs roughly $40K, and amortizing its cost over a 500 pieces sprint run would make the knives VERY expensive. Micarta, in a different color to avoid confusion with the older ones, would probably be the most "doable".

If 500 would make it too expensive, then Spyderco could do a standard run of 1,200. That still would dwarf Endura production.

Why not make it out of micarta or G10 and while were at it a ZDP-189 blade :)

Like Deacon said, it costs something like $30,000+ to tool an FRN handle. FRN is only practical for something that is expected to be a high volume seller (thousands of units). That was always the problem for the Caly Jr.

The Calypso jr. seemed to sell very well. Soon to be impossible to have one.

I want a full size flat ground knife that doesn't cost Military or Manix money. So I want FRN.
In that case Anthony, might a sprint run of full flat ground Enduras fill the bill? That would avoid the cost for a mold and keep the cost "reasonably" close to the standard Endura.

Now THAT'S interesting. I would be interested in a full flat grind Endura or Delica. Perfect for an apple or bagel. Seriously. I have been carrying my Endura, but the grind makes it hard to use for food or other uses.

A full flat ground Endura makes good economic sense and I would buy one. I would prefer a Calypso, but I understand that Spyderco is a business and not a wish factory.

Micarta, FRN a full size Calypso would be paid for in advance by me!

Not so keen on the full flat ground Endura idea. For me, there's a bit more to the Calypso design than just a full flat ground thin blade.

Certainly the Calypso handle is not the same, but I think we are talking about what might ever happen at all.

I would prefer the micarta calypso, but if that doesn't happen a full flat Endura would certainly make it to me.

I would love to have an FRN Calypso (with a single steel liner and pocket-clip like the Centofante III please)!
And no text on the blade (except maybe the black bug).
And make it with the gold bug on the clip.

But I'll pass on the full flat-grind Endura.
I like the Endura "okay" but the handle just is'nt that comfortable for me to use for a long period of time.

The Calypso handle with the choil is much better IMHO.

Cheers,
Allen.

Wow... I'd be all over that! The specific color of the Micarta scales wouldn't even matter to me (as long as it's not black). I sooo regret selling my PE large Calypso a few years ago.
