sprint run persian

Deacon,

Is it realy true you cannot flick the persian, are they that tight? never handled one myself.
Define flicking. What I'm talking about is holding the knife by the handle and attempting to open the blade kinetically by a flick of the wrist or arm. I have six C83 Persians and none can be opened that way by me. I doubt there's anyone alive who could open five of them that way, the sixth one's a bit looser. It's the only one that I can successfully "Spyderdrop" occasionally by grasping the Spyderhole between my thumb and finger and snapping the handle open. But even that is hit or miss with it, and impossible with the others. Probably one of the reasons I love them so much.

Me too. At least with my small Persian and Kris that is. I never had the chance to get a C83. Hope I can at least pick up a couple of the Sprint runs. :D:thumbup:

I do find my large Persian a little tighter than I like. Also, I have to say that I would prefer a somewhat 'gripier' handle than the micarta my old knife has.

Does being pinned mean Spyderco can't repair them should the need arise, or just that the end-user can't?

With flicking I mean using the spyderhole with your thumb to open it a little bit and then flick it open with a short snap of the wrist. That's the way I open my military, so I was just wondering if this method is not possible with persian.

It can be done, but it's not as easy and takes a little practice.

You're comparing apples and oranges. No midlock will ever be as easy to open that way as a liner or framelock. Once the ball detent of a liner or framelock is overcome, which only takes a couple degrees of movement, the blade will stay put and the only resistance to gravity/centrifugal force is pressure from ball against the side of the blade and whatever drag has been created by tightening down the pivot so that the washers are squeezing it. Not so with a midlock, where the lockbar rides against the blade tang. Open one just a little bit, and the blade will snap back to the closed position. On the Persian, you'd need to open the blade at least 45º to get it to stay put long enough to flick. Once there you still have to flick considerably harder due to the backspring pressing the lockbar against the blade tang, and the Persian has a relatively strong backspring plus a tight pivot so there is considerable drag. Upside is, chances of ever reading about someone getting bitten when one accidentally opened in their pocket are virtually nil.
