Spy. Almite Navigator Passaorund - SIGNUP

Thanks for letting me keep it the extra days so I could use it for 3 days of work Dave.

First, I really really liked that lil knife and plan to get one of my own sometime soon.
It is very small, but still big enough to fit the hand and do it's job. I loved the shape of the handle, fit my hand very nicely and made using it very comfortable. The blade shape was good and the edge was nicely sharp. It cut through everything I needed it to with the greatest of ease. Except that chord thing, but no plain edge would cut through that easily. Overall the Navigator is a very handy little knife. It was a pleasure to use and did it's job quickly, and easily. It also cuts cucumbers like nobody's business. :)

There was only one thing I did not like about the knife, and that was the direction the clip was facing. I would much prefer that it be facing the other way, but it seemed that from the shape of the handle it couldn't be turned around. No big deal as it was small enough that I could just put it into my pocket without it bothering me... But still, I didn't like that if it even matters. But other than that I give the Spyderco Navigator an "A" for what I used it for.

Thanks Dave.

As a side note, I was so impressed with the Navigator, I picked up a NIB one with the Almite finish from Bladetrader for $25 with shipping included. Nat a bad deal, ehh?

Hi guys, I got the knife yesterday. Nice little knife. Small, but fits the hand nicely. It's gonna take quite a bit of work on the sharpmaker before it is even close to being up to par. I hope it was sharper when Crit had it, or he really wouldn't have gotten good use out of it. The edge is pretty worn, with light reflecting off the entire edge. It will only tear paper, and I can run my finger along the entire edge without fear of getting cut. I will definitely get this thing useable for Greymoor. BTW Dave, you should make it clear to everybody that when they send the knife in one of the Priority Mail boxes, they get a new box, and don't try and reuse the one-time-use box. The Post Office has plenty of these, and they don't charge you for them. All you have to do is ask the person at the counter for one. The only reason I mention that is, this knife is the second that I have received recently from a passaround member that just put a new label on the box they received it in, and taped it closed. And even worse with this one, the box wasn't sealed on one end. All I had to do was untuck the flap. I don't know if it was opened by a postal worker (I think they would have resealed it), or if Criticize just forgot to tape it, but it could have very easily been opened and had the knife stolen, or even just open during transit with the contents falling out. This would have damaged some of my credibility because the box would have shown delivered to me, but I would be claiming that the knife wasn't in it. Anyway, it turned out ok in this instance, but it could have been bad. I will sharpen this knife and use it for a couple days then send it on to Greymoor.

Thanks Dave

Mike

I feel about 3 inches tall :(

That was my first time sending anything, and didn't know about getting a new box. The lady at the PO said it wasn't a problem to reuse the same box. She did all the taping, I didn't know it wasn't fully sealed, sorry.

As for the sharpening goes, I tested it with my finger when I got it, and did it again before I sent it. I didn't notice any real difference and didn't think to say anything. But I have never needed to sharpen a knife before, all the knives in the past were Benchmade Balisongs that got resharpened by BM. I'll make sure to buy a Sharpmaker and do some reading before I recive any other knives.

Sorry about all the newbie mistakes.

Medic1210 thanks for the heads up, also it probably wasn't fully sharp to begin with from me.

Don't worry Crit, I was just letting people know since it was the second one of Dave's passaround knives that I received in a re-sealed box. The new Priority mail boxes are very tamper proof, and once their seal is broken, there is no way to tell if it has been tampered with. Just an extra bit of security to consider when shipping someone else's knife across country.

As for it's edge, I got it sharp yesterday while at work. I ended up having to use my red DMT diafold rod because the Sharpmaker wasn't cutting it. Once I got the bevels to meet, I went to the sharpmaker and sharpened it to the brown flats. I didn't worry with putting a semi polished edge because I was quite satisfied with the sharpness of the brown flats. It pops hair, and is an awesome slicer with the edge it has now. I will use it some and send it off on Monday.

Thanks,

Mike
