Spy deco Domino vs. ZT 566?

I just picked up a ZT 566, and I love it, but I really like the Spyderco Domino, but it is about $70 or $80 more than I want to pay at the moment. For those who have both, how do they compare?

I'm interested as well. Those are the two folders i want most right now. Some comparison photos would be great if anyone has them!

I have the domino, but no 566. I do love me some ZT though.

I got the Domino about a week ago, problem is that I got a ZT801 and a KC Native in CTS-XHP too. But so far I'm loving The Domino. It flips sweet, or you can use the hole. The blade is a wide leaf shape and CTS-XHP, So it's a slicer. It is NOT what I would call a hard use knife. Try using it as a pry bar and you will break it. (not that I would use any knife as a pry bar unless my life depended on it)

I'm sure the 566 is an excellent knife and do want one too, But the assisted opening is a turn off. I will remove it when I get one.

My 566 has a fairly stout blade, but it s not thick like the ZT 560. From what I hear, the assisted opening spring is easy to remove on the ZT 566, but I plan on keeping mine intact,

I can see that, but I think the ZT 566 and Domino are about the same size and both have killer blade steel.

Yeah but they are priced far apart, one is assisted and the other in on bearings, one it an import and the other is USA made.

The deciding factors would be the price and assist vs bearings for me.

I get your point, but those are the two knives I'd like to see compared.

They're actually pretty close in size. The strong detent and bearings on the domino make it as quick to open as the 0566. I prefer the domino because the blade closes easily without any resistance from a torsion bar. That being said, there is surprisingly little resistance when closing the zt as far as assisted openers go. Both great knives, but I would take the domino between the two.

Is the weight a factor in you preferring the Domino? I'll get a Domino sometime in 2014, but it's good to know that my 566 is pretty close to the Domino head to head.

I have both, and they are awesome knives, but I carry the 566 more. The 566 blade is stonewashed and doesn't shine like the domino does, but the domino has better steel and is so much smoother to deploy and is a better slicer, and is more sheeple friendly.

I have both as well. I carry the 0566 more because I like the blade a little better. I deassisted the 0566 and polished the washers on a strop, but the domino is a smoother flipper by far. I think the domino is worth the price for the steel you get plus the titanium lockbar.

+1^^^^^

Isn't Elmax supposed to be a pretty hot powdered steel also? When it comes to lockbars, I guess the Domino has the best of both worlds since it is titanium with a steel insert to prevent wear.

I wear jeans or cargo shorts 95% of the time, so weight really doesn't make a difference to me until around the 6 ounce and up range. If I were wearing slacks I would choose something slimmer than the domino.

I am also a sucker for full flat grinds.

It is, and the lock bar on the 566 is steel, so there is no stick like you would have with a titanium lock bar. I had, and sold a 560, and the 566 I have now has no lock stick whatsoever with the elmax blade like I had with the 560. The domino is just another level of quality, but the 566 is a perfect EDC IMO.

I have a 0566 and love it and plan on getting Domino very soon. Your see some people like the Elmax steel and others dont. There has been many debates on topic it just comes down to the person

I would prefer something other than elmax for the 566, but until they release some different variants of the knife it will suffice. I would really like to see the 566 in S30, or some other steel. I have to sharpen my 566 every week but am not complaining about it, I really like the size of the 566, it really is the perfect EDC size.

I'm hoping they make a composite blade 0566 at some point. Maybe ZDP-189 like the 0350CBZDP?

I have both. Both are great. The price difference is justified.

1. Spyderco Domino has a titanium frame lock with steel insert vs. The ZT 566 ' s steel frame lock.

2. Spyderco Domino has a ball bearing system vs. Zt 566 ' s bronze washer system.

3. Spyderco Domino has a Titanium liner vs. Zt 566 ' s steel liner.

Size wise they are very similar.

The Zt weighs more and to some that matters a lot. I don't really care.

The Zt rides real nice with the deep pocket clip. The Spyderco sticks out a lot more.

Here is a big thing for a lot of people. The Zt is spring assisted and it's okay. I took the bar out and it's actually a really nice manual flipper. Has a nice detent and with a few flips you get the hang of it. I will keep it as a manual flipper. Also to me the Zt feels more like a tactical knife. The Spyderco feels more like a nice slicer.

I would say just get both. If you don't like one put it up here for sale or trade. Both a nice new knives that people want so it's not like you'll lose money on it or be sitting on it for a long time if you decide to get rid of it. Plus it's Christmas. Buy yourself the gift ;)
